My truck has Arctic Fox fuel tank heaters that sense when the fuel is too cold and then bypasses warm coolant until the diesel is at optimal operating temperature. This works great as long as the truck is running. Combined with a winter grill and the Fuel filter heater it takes most all the worry out of ever gel’ing up.
Currently, the truck has a diesel fired bunk heater (Espar) but no APU. With fuel being cheap I didn’t see the ROI. However, I anticipate fuel rising in price significantly over the next years so I’m starting to take a look at possibly adding the Thermo King Evolution with the arctic package in the future.
My question mostly consists of, does anyone run this setup together? I’m very interested in the fact that it could be zero degrees or below and the truck sit over the weekend and have no problems at all. The engine would be warm, the fuel would be warm, and the batteries would be charged.
I’m looking to this as a three fold solution. 1. Driver comfort and retention 2. Fuel savings 3. Decrease my worry that we’ll have a problem while the truck sits over the weekend in zero degree weather. Technically, we would never even have to treat fuel, as we only do now for the weekends when it’s very cold and engine off.
Any thoughts or opinions welcome. This is not an area of expertise for me by any means! Thanks.
Anyone use Arctic Fox fuel tank heater with TK Evolution?

The Arctic Fox 703-BTEH inline fuel heater has a block heater like plug capability with a pre-installed 70 watt heater (you have to buy the plug) and installs within 24" of the first filter. You can daisy chain from it to your in tank elements and it also has the warmer temp shutoff valve on it. I had a truck that I would plug in it, the block heater, I also had a 110w oil pan heater and the inverter which had a trickle charge battery capability. Saves you nearly $15k on the Tripac.
If you went with the Tripac, Arctic Fox makes an intake element with a spiral draw tube around the outside of the coolant pipe that is designed to feed an APU.
I never had a failed start with mine no matter how cold. No guarantee that your Espar doesn't gel in that config though. I find the D4 Espar is much more dependable than the D2Last edited: Feb 11, 2021

I have a 1st gen tripac and I think you’ll be disappointed with the expectations of keeping the motor warm. I have the water temp sensors and it will kick on around 32* but it doesn’t run long enough to put much heat in the motor. You’ll probably see a 10* rise if there’s not much wind.
Maybe @reeferwrencher knows if the evolution does better or can have parameters changed for longer run time.Rideandrepair, Midwest Trucker and reeferwrencher Thank this. -
Isn’t there a super arctic package that has the block heater only 600W and a oil pan heater too......?
According to the new generation fuel never gels and all those things are a waste of time/money.....
But I’m with you ....... -20F and more separates the weak trucks out pretty quickly.......

oil pan heater works great

for example I had to move a truck this morning, 7 degrees out, it sat for a week. Batteries are charged and it has a maxwell starting module. I didn’t plug it in, it is too far from the building to do that. So I got into it, cranked up the apu and let it go for 45 minutes, went into the office than back out and it started right up, no issues starting and it was nice and warm.
I had one issue with artic fox heaters a while back, I got two of them which were cracked at the bends, they promptly replaced them.cke, Rideandrepair and Midwest Trucker Thank this. -
