A recruiter from Givens came in and talked to our class today. Talked about great home time and moving Honda Equipment, from motorcycles to water craft. Any info on this company would be very much appreciated. I may look into applying to them since they are based out of Chesapeake VA. They are only 25 or so miles from home. He told us the truck stay in the yard, you do not take them home and they pay 35, 36 or 37 CPM depending on where you are headed. Going to the north east pays the most. He also said that every driver gets at least two weeks training paid at $100 a day and everyone goes to New York at one time or another. He told us that the home time is weekly and 75% are home on the weekends. He says that they have Kenworth T2000's with no slip seating.
Anyone out there know anything about them? Any and all info is welcome.
Thanks![]()

IT's been five days and no responses.
I was hoping to get some info, because the company sounded good, but that was coming from the companies stand point. I wanted to get some drivers opinions.
I would still like some inputs if any are out there.
Thanks -
I've been with Givens since 11/04. They're the only company I've driven for so I don't have anything to compare them against. I do know that we've got drivers that have been there forever.
The top brass are accessible and have treated me respectfully. The office staff, drivers and even the owner are a friendly and helpful group. It's proper ettiquette to flash your headlights and/or wave to other Givens' drivers you may see on the road.
Trucks are well maintained. We don't get a lot of miles but when you add the stop pay to the cpm, it's above average. I went 85,000+ miles in '07. We'll usually leave on late monday afternoon and get back saturday. If you have to stay out over the weekend, you get layover pay if you can't deliver.
We do get off of the interstates to get to the dealers and get to see more of the country. We do have a book of directions to the dealers, but sometimes it's best to call the dealer yourself. 48' trailers because a lot of the stops are tight in/out. Docks at dealers are a luxuary. Light loads leaving and 77,000+ backhauls.
Dealers don't make you wait. Stops take 15 minutes usually, but can take up to 1 hr. depending on how many pcs. they're getting. I've done 9 stops in a day in CT. Most of the driving is during the daytime. I've been as far N as Presque Isle, ME; W to Romeoville, IL and S to Huntsville, AL. "Hazardous-duty" pay to go into NYC/LI.
This is the hardest part of the job:
What more do you need to know? I'm happy here!
