Anyone heard of Powersource Transportation

As far as I know, Powersource is all owner operator. They advertise as being all power only. I think a lot of their freight is unusual stuff most carriers don't deal with. Like circus equipment.

 

I ran into one of their drivers a few months ago down in Houston and he was a company driver and he really liked them. He was making like .48 per mile for the load he was pulling which was an oversize load but nothing major it was just some kind of tank that was like 9.5 ft wide. One thing that I noticed was his truck was a 2004 with only 250k miles on it though which isn't much.

 

Powersource has no company drivers, they are 100% o/o, I was with them for three years, when work was good, they were great, when work was slow, it was very bad, i spent 3 weeks in Portland waiting for a load once, right after I spent 2 weeks in Stuart MT, We hauled anything that needed to be moved except boats and mobile homes, did alot of circus,music concerts, broadway plays, new trailers. I would say they were ok except they stabbed me in the back when I took my truck and signed on with a competitor

 

I'm a little curious as to who their competitor is if you don't mind saying. I'm looking in to signing on and am only looking for o/o stuff

 

Powersource is one of many power only companies out there. The big one of course is trailer transit but there are many others. Rexdon Inc out of Charleston IL, Trailer Convoys, Mapletree in IN are others. If you are interested in a different type of work than power only maybe for you. I spent 3 years doing it and still have friends doing it. Like the previous post stated when that when things are going well it is a great job but when things are slow you are better going home and waiting it out. Could be weeks. I too have sat quite awhile waiting. New trailer business is not what it used to be and many plants have closed. You do not get paid to bobtail and if you do it is only enough to cover fuel if you are lucky. Could be 50 miles or 1,500. Just depends. Laid back lifestyle so that has its advantages. Pull alot of not the best maintained equipment. I have turned down many trailers after getting to customer and seeing the condition of tires, brakes etc. And tough to get one repaired on road. No one wants to pay for it.

Pay is not always the best. Some things are great others are not. Alot of brokers have like the rest of trucking have ruined the rates. Found a trailer last week on broker board from San Diego CA to Upstate NY for 100 bucks. The let you load trailer and keep revenue but you have to put your own insurance on trailer and cargo.That is a recipe for disaster and a insurance claim if something happens. These trailers used to pay to move empty. Not the greatest pay but usually paid well to go to CA.

Good luck for anyone trying the power only business. It is alot better lifestyle than freight but I could not find the money in it anymore and the inconsistent freight is what finally did me in. Would go do it again in a heartbeat if things were to ever improve in that industry.
