Load boards are bad and collections even worse... so maybe partnering with one a the big guys isn't so bad for now??? I'm looking for feedback on JB Hunt's Power Only or Schneider's Power Plus program for O/O's with authority. Good or bad - what's your experience??? Anyone have suggestions for a good company hiring O/O's with authority, or just leasing??? THANKS
Anyone have info on JB Power Only or Schneider Power Only?

i did the schneider deal and did real well while the fuel prices were up once the fuel came down so did the rates i really don't think they have much freight right now . you pull thier freight you pay $3 a day for trailer ins unless you have trailer interchange ins with your liability/cargo while pulling their trailers once mt you can use their trailer to find your own load and pay $15 a day for the first 3 days then it jumped to $30 for the next 3 then $45 a day after that. they pay all lumpers after approval but you must pay it and get reimburced with an updated comfirmation sheet. . they are totally non forced dispatch and you work when you want if they have it and go where you want. most rates are negotiable they have 2 1/2% quickpay (i think thats the rate) but it has a $25 minimum fee
i could drop a trailer and bobtail home and find a load myself 2 days later and call and they would get me an mty to use as long as i did it witin 3 days after i dropped their load then keep it as long as i needed it but that came after building a relationship
i called jb and their program is the same as being leased except you pay all ins etc. with not being able to use their trailer yourself if they can't find you a load and if you go somewhere and have a drop load and decide to bobtail home or somewhere else if they dont have a return load next load you do pull must come from the area you dropped the trailer. (bobtail back) rates are non negotiable
i would still be at schneider if they had the freight at the rates i was getting when the fuel was high
but since the slowdown there hasn't been much leftover for power plus but you can get setup with them as another avenue to get freight it's free to do so once you establish you self with your dispatcher and prove you will get the job done on time without whining and being honest with them you will get the most freight they were willing to pay xtra for good reliable service any other questions i'll answer the best i canLast edited: Jul 10, 2009

What mileage rate did they pay and how many miles per week? Long or short hauls?
Truckinwva -
Markjvl,
JB TOLD ME AN AVERAGE OF 1.25 PER MILE. AND THEY WOULD KEEP ME ROLLING WITH THE SAME WAGON, OR SOMETIMES DROPPING/HOOKING AT THE SAME LOCATION. BUT, YOU HAVE DEFINITELY GOT TO HAVE A GOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR DISPATCHER. HE WOULD GET ME LOADS TO JUST ABOUT ANYWHERE I WANTED TO GO, INCLUDING HOME (EVERY 2 WEEKS OR SO, IF I WANTED?

i did all short stuff flat rate example chester pa to allentown pa 64 miles $500 (i would be happy doing 1 a day everyday) fuel went down they wouldn't give me more than $400 that was 200 miles from my house to chester to allentown and home
chester pa to ny or long island $800 160 miles got cut to $500 (tolls there and back home about $140) the long stuff payed about $1.00 to $135 a mile depending on their mood and destination i don't run farther than a 500 mile radius from allentown out and back home i have a home and i want to sleep here
as usual the farther you go the less it pays almost all preloaded 75%drop and go the others live unloads
i didn't work strictly for them i have flatbed stuff i do also
i did mostly kimberly clark (chester) and p and g (mehoopany,pa) i live right in the middle between the 2
i did have 1 week that was super buisy and ran 2200 local miles and did about $5300 but that was only once usually i did 3-4 loads a week alot of it on the weekends and did my flatbed the rest of the time or used their trailer to get my own loads thru brokersLast edited: Jul 10, 2009
truckinwva Thanks this. -
How long ago were you doing this?
-
112racing, go over this power plus where you run for them and use their wagon for your own loads. if you use their trailer, do you have to bring it back to the location where you last dropped theit load or call them from the end of your trip? DETAILS PLEASE. Do most companies give you more bucks for shorter hauls?
truckinwva -
THEY OFFERED AN AVERAGE OF $1.25 PER MILE.
truckinwva -
I did it for almost 2 years untill it dried up last december because of the economy short hauls almost always pay much more than long haul and of course there is the premium for running ny city / long island . As far as dropping mt's there were always several locations around allentown or bethlehem for me to drop them either at customers or a small drop yard but you have to call and they would either tell me where they wanted them when they needed mt's dropped or mostly where i wanted to drop them

Thanks, do you think this is a viable program right now? The step deck freight is awful and I really want to try something different. Or maybe it's my attitude......
