thinking about buying a truck to haul coal local. does anyone know what kind of money can be made with this? can i make a decent living?

i've driven truck for 15 years. i am not mechanically inclined lol, know that i dont want to run over the road the rest of my life.

i am coming into some money, not a ton, but enough to buy a truck outright. just tossing around some ideas, coal truck, dump truck etc.

would like to come home everynight, my daughter is going to be grown and gone in less than 4 years. i've missed so much.

also i live in the ohio valley, is area a concern when considering profit margin.

thanks in advance for any advice

Dump truckin is one of the MOST CUT THROAT sides of the trucking industry. Rates are in the toilet because of that. Beware!! I think I would try anything else, ANYTHING ELSE before I'd jump into dump truckin now. Sorry if that's not what you want to hear, but it's the truth!!

I agree with badazz, not to mention running coal or tri-axle dump in general, your going to be really hard on that truck, so your going to want to be somewhat mechanically inclined. your going to go through lots of tires also.

Mechanically inclined would be, SHOULD BE a requirement!!!!! Dump trucking to say the least is hard on equipment even if you have trucks spec'd for it. And tires are gonna be one of a long list of things you're gonna go thru, and or be hard on. :biggrin_25521: We used to make some decent change$$ doin it, now days ya better be at the top of your game and that's no guarantee you make it. :biggrin_2556:
