I guess my only negative response to this would be your commute. 50 miles isn't far. Until you have worked a16 hour day, getting off at 4 PM (rush hour traffic,) and have to be back on the clock by midnight or 1 AM. I think that would really get to me.

Hey mpd, what were they so defiant about? Was it a bad place to work?:p:D

Yeah I hear ya on that but there isn't much around my house. Binghamton is 15 min from the house and it's hard to find local work with all the laid off oil and gas guys plus scranton is 2x the size of bing. Mclane is about 45 miles away, jb dcs is 52 miles from the house. Core-mark and few other food companies are in the scranton area so either way im gonna have to commute. I was spoiled with my last job being 9 miles from home

I hear that! My last job before retiring was nine miles from my home as well. And there was many a time I was thankful for that.

Browsing craigslist I found out Bates-Troy the laundry company is hiring in binghamton. Driving within a 90 mile radius of bing pushing carts of uniforms in and out of the trailer, mostly doing hospitals. Gonna go apply in person now.

Dounkin Donuts that's a tuffy, some of those Dunkin Donuts are probably alright to do in a 48' trailer, but I've seen a couple others that I can think of here in Cleveland where I don't know if that truck could realistically get around the lot. That's a tuffy right there boy. I know it takes a little getting used to, to navigate some of the Dunkin Donuts lots in a big truck like that.

Well....I finally got a chance to talk with my coworker and this is what he said about the job. Keep in mind that this is HIS experience and it goes back a couple years, so things might have changed.

You start off on a 90 day probation at whatever the starting rate is. After your 90 day, you move up to top rate. Routes are bidded by seniority. It's a nonunion job. Start times may vary, because it is a 24/7 operation, depending on what route your on. Now you will be delivering baked goods, milk, supplies, etc., using a liftgate unloading palletized freight with a palletjack. Once offloaded, it has to be broken down and delivered into their storage area via hand truck. The trailers are 3 compartment reefer trailers (freezer, refrigerated and dry). He did mentioned that a lot of the donuts delivered are premade and frozen (so much for fresh made donuts) because they had a hard time finding bakers to come in at 2-3 in the morning. They do deliver fresh made donuts, but they are delivered by the small box trucks, so if you want fresh made donuts, follow the small box truck delivery guys. Usually you work about 45-50 hours a week. Raises are about 4-5% per year. Benefits are fully paid and 401k is 3% match. And as I mentioned, this HIS experience at where he worked at. It may be different now.

When you do find a company to work for, perhaps you could move closer to the terminal, perhaps in the same town if it is a big enough town with a supermarket and apartments that you could possibly rent out of.
Driving 50 each way is a lot of wear and tear on your car, not to mention very time consuming.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!
