It comes down to personal preference. Do you want to be working day shift and home daily, or night shift for more money but staying in hotels throughout the week?

I’d imagine with Estes in the northeast you’ll be running a lot of 50 mile short hops between terminals, so it won’t be a cakewalk of simply drive 600 miles from A to B then go to the hotel. But the money is there if you’re willing to work for it.

Saia will have an easier schedule and nicer equipment.

There’s a terminal in Tifton Ga that’s hiring. I read a lot of reviews on Indeed, and they seem to confirm what someone said that it can depend on the terminal you’re based at.

Here’s 3 reviews out of this particular terminal. https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Saia-LTL-Freight/reviews?fjobcat=driver&fcountry=US&floc=Tifton%2C+GA

    O
T doesn’t start until after 45 hours, though that’s better than some that only pay straight hourly regardless (or Central Transport that pays OT after 55 hours, and I only know this from reading reviews and not the job description). Though one review states that they make work you 14 hours 4 days straight but then you only work for a few hours on Friday so they barely have to pay you any OT.

Was just talking to a Central driver the other day. He also said OT after 55 hours. He also said they load their own trailers for P&D in the morning which I'm sure sucks to do. They're paying kinda low for this area though. But usually little to no wait to jump to linehaul unlike other ltl companies where you may run p&d, extra board, or dock for a couple years.

I say if you’re ok with 45 hours a week then go for P&D. Saia pays OT after 45 and they do the best to keep you from hitting that. Especially if you don’t have seniority. Doesn’t matter how good you are with your deliveries and pickups they will still call you off when you’re at 45.

I understand that, but the OPs post said "Anybody work at Saia?" so I just contributed, but yes I agree two different animals P&D and Linehaul.

This begs the question of how much responsibility the driver has to “make everything fit”.

Last time there was an ad for my area it was $24 hourly. Not TOO terrible for the cost-of-living. If it was OT after 40 hours and you hardly ever worked less than 50 hours weekly, it’d actually be pretty decent.

Im a Saia Driver I was a city driver out of Tifton GA terminal..But now I'm on the linehaul side out of the Valdosta GA terminal. Freight is picking up so we are wide open, They have hired four city guys
in the past couple months..It’s pretty laid back here Office personnel are great as long as you’re making all your pickups and getting off all your deliveries you will never hear from anyone..The cameras aren’t a issue they are pretty relaxed as long as you are not driving and texting!

Maybe at other Terminals..But here If freight is slow they rotate so all drivers get a turn being cut seniority doesn’t matter..If you are at 45 hours they are not cutting guys here they keep us busy, Even if they have to put a city guy on a linehaul run they keep everyone busy for the most part.
