The Aliquippa Pa terminal I believe is in the works to be shut down. They have a sign out by the road saying the building and land are for sale. They use to have quite a few drivers domiciled at this yard but now they have like 5 drivers.

i took a job at lj in july 2009, and left after 1 year for better local jobs. look up my post and you will see why they are pre hiring anyone that they can. total bottomfeeder outfit now. It USED to be a good company, up until about 4 years ago. I don't think Aliquippa is totally shut down, they just didn't have anything coming out of there like they used to. they only have a few alliquippa teamster drivers running though, just enough to keep them out of trouble with the pension.

besides, for what they pay, if you look enough, you can pull a van and make that much. look at kane transport out of scranton. i think they hire at .41 cpm, and you aren't dealing with broken down dead equipment and nyc deliveries at 4am. If you are set on flatbedding, there are better options in the area. Check out Yourga trucking, google them, they have a site. much better company, better benefits and a good retirement plan.

My husband worked for Kennedy for 3 days. We decided with my daughters medical issues he loved the job but didnt like staying away from home that long. So he did a Wednesday thru Friday out on a trainer truck and said thats it. He was to be paid for 3 days and never got it. He called several times only to be told yes a check would be there end of week. Well 2 weeks after he was supposed to get paid he called again. They told him he was taken out of system and put as inactive so that means no checks are generated...Why after 3 weeks would you say that now?? They had to look into it and call him back. She said he was put back as active and would be paid 3 days orientation the following friday..we will see. Also, they said they were going to get him home the friday he worked by late morning early afternoon but took them south completely a different direction from home. He didnt get home until 830pm!!! Just watch out, they act accomadating to get you in the door then treat you like ####.:biggrin_25513:

I just spent three days with LJ Kennedy and let me tell you this. Alquippa is still up and running only because of USG right across the street from them. But plans are to shut down. As far as working for them it does seem decent with exception that they will not let you get home on friday before the dispatchers get home. So you can have a load for 1pm but your not going to get loaded until 5pm. So you getting home friday evening isn't possible just late friday night or early saturday morning depending on where you leave from where you are getting loaded. Also in training you do all the driving as your trainer gets to sit on his fat butt and talk your ear off about things you have no intrest in. While he is talking about all the money you are making him cause he is getting 2500+ miles a week cause you are his little slave monkey. You have to do load securment on your first load. You have to strap yourself he will usually direct you but your doing it yourself. They tell you at oreintation that your first day is nothing but qualcomm but thats not true you are driving strapping tarping and qualcomm so if you have no experience in either your going to have a tuff time. I had zero flat bed experience but I did the best I could. The trainer said he was impressed with how quick I was picking this up. Come friday night I drive to my house get off the truck taking my gear with me. He said that he isn't going to be my trainer anymore. And earier that morning the Recruiter calls me up saying that he hasn't found me a trainer yet, but he will find me one and he will call me Monday morning for pickup. Monday comes no call from trainer or recruiter. I write e-mail asking what is going on I haven't heard from anyone. The recruiter writes back saying I was terminated because the new trainer made several phone calls and left several messages on my phone. He left none and no phone call was ever made to me. Then to top it all off I haven't gotten paid for any of my training. I call and they said I should have it friday. Friday is here and no pay check I call again and the payroll department (one person) says that I was put inactive and the computer didn't cut me a check. So now I have to wait another week to get my pay thats three weeks past my training date to wait until I get paid. If you want a company that pays on time and doesn't harrass you or lie to you every step of the way... Stay local and dont go OTR with LJ Kennedy Trucking I warned you.

You learn flatbed by doing not watching. No company can guarantee you to be home at a certain time on anyday especially if you are regional. As far as LJ Kennedy goes it is a awful place to work. They pay short mile that is like 10% shorter than anything I have ever seen. The equiptment is poor and tarps have more holes than they don't. The dispatchers (idiots) in NJ have no clue what they are doing, it is not uncommon to dead head 100 to 200 miles for a 200 mile load and pass 5 other empty LJK trucks heading the other direction. You pick up USG loads to deliver at 2,3,4 ect. in the morning at 5 at night with 300 miles to go and 2 hours left on your 11/14 HOS. They expect you to make it. Look at their rating under the CSA , these comments are easily confirmed. They are trying to run it like a drop and hook van outfit..that doesn't work for flatbed especially in the Midd-Atlantic/Northeast. They do not train properly, they hire any breathing warm body. They are the running joke of the flatbeds in the Northeast!
