I've put in LOTs of sunroofs over the years and a few side windows in vans. Best thing to do is have a body shop do it! That way if the F it up they have to fix it! But if your going to tackle it your self. Have you thought how your going to finish the inside? How does this window go in? is it flange mounted with screws, or is set in a rubber gasket, or urathaned in? You need to know this first!
1 Make a paper templete of the window.
2 tape it on the back and make sure it's centered and level.
3 Remove the inside trim panel and make sure there's no wires or braces or anything else that you shouldn't cut.
4 Rethink about haveing the body shop do it! It's not to late!
5 Useing a SHARP drill bit drill a hole NEAR and edge large enough to start your cut.
6 If useing a sabre saw make sure you cover all painted area's with masking tape so the saw won't scratch the paint, an air nibbler will make real quick work of cutting and sizing the hole.(do this before drilling) DO NOT USE A 4" GRINDER WITH A CUTTING WHEEL!
7 cut the hole just a little smaller than needed, you can always trim a little.
8 Install window and hope the holes not to big and that you have all the parts ( like the inner stiffner and any spacers) that you might need and that it dosn't leak.
    good luck!

on some trucks made for flatbeding there are factory installed windows and rear view mirror in cab like in car. Drivers complane that when they are in cold placed it is cold from window in sleeper

I have done EXTENSIVE auto custom fabrications. I've even won some show awards for my work along the years with an 89 CRX, 89 Mustang, 97 Thunderbird, 84 Toronado, and 2000 Bonneville.
I've cut 3 window holes and count them all as EPIC FAILS!
    Yea.....rethink number 4.....
Since you own your own truck, I am sure that you would not be proud if the work isnt perfect.
You could always "rebuild" holes that are cut too big, but this can get sloppy quick or involve welding in new metal. Water (even in a vertical surface) finds it way in so easily!
All that said, please post pics when done....it'd be great to see!
    Good luck

well i the window i has is not mounted with screws and i dont think its urethaned in. It has a rubber gasket type seal similar to the ones that hold the front windshields on to the front of my 87 classic.

Now it came with the inner stiffner but i have to straighten it out as the top edge is bent up out of shape looks to be whomeever pulled it off truck. Anyways i was thinking of how to mount window without using stiffner as it looks as if i could install it similar to the windows on a RV or something just cut hole about an 1/8" bigger then window itself. and install window with rubber seal, i just am unsure of cutting window 1/8" bigger or a lil smaller or larger? just want to avoid recutting so i would like to just cut one accrate size based of window once.

Will be removing all interior plastic thats for sure and Paint dont matter as i painted the truck myself with semi flat black. Its seems as if this window will stay within the area of the main pillars on the back wall of the sleeper which is great news to me, but there seems to be a main stringer or brace that runs up and down right in the middle of where this window will go, which i dont care that ##### is coming out lol/

Kinda like a hair cut! They can always take more off but glueing it back on looks a little silly, Don't cut it to big!!

Cant be that expensive to have it done! Lol $300-500 i would guess? Not too much labor involved, most can be done within 8 hours if the laborer is skilled (proffesional)

Check the FMCA book, before you cut anything, The rules for sleeper safety are really written out in there. Be sure it is legal before you cut anything. FYI>

well it cant be illegal as it comes on certain trucks from factory. I also doubt they will take apart my whole interior panel in order to check what was done and how it was done either. if so that DOT officer has a whole lot of time on his hands lol.

i was planning on cutting it about 1/8" bigger then the actual window or maybe less and go opening it up as needed little by lil just wondering had somesort of plan of attack when it comes to size of the hole, as how much larger should the opening be as it can be the same size as the rubber seal goes in between if i had some sort of dial caliper to measure the thickness in between seal to see how thick it was exactly that would tell me right off rip.
    i k
now how to install it once hole is cut thats a piece of cake its more about the cutting the hole part were i dont want there to many trial and error.

    aiwiron Thanks this.
