Any reason I shouldn't turn up the HP on my new truck?

I recently bought a 2017 Kenworth t680 with an isx15 with 2.64s. It was governed at 65 its whole life and the hp was set at 425. I was planning on turning it up to 450 and removing the governor speed limit. I will be over 70k often and will have some mountains to run so wanted a little extra hp. Is there any reason I shouldn't turn up the hp the little bit I can to 450?

Just open it up. Take off all the restrictions.

I did that with a w900 I was buying from my employer that's long closed up. Best money spent on that truck. More power and better economy. More power equals less time spent on trips. You're climbing hills ffaster. And burning less fuel with shorter trip times.

I don't know why companies pig down their trucks like that. Mine started off as a swift truck.

Mine was 425, had it turned up to 500. No regrets. For the money I wouldn't bother for 25 hp. You would barely notice it.

Yea not worth it for 25hp. Check and see what the difference is between 500. The 500 might have lower compression and diff turbo. Get the CPL and have em compare

I would run it as is for now.(not talking about the speedlimiter)
See if everything is tight on the engine.
Then after a periode take a look at the results and if your happy with them.
    That is the smart way.
Changing stuff on a secondhand truck in the early days can lead to issues which are difficult to diagnose as you will not know if it was a existing problem or a new one.

I bought this Freightliner about a month ago now, another guy bought one just like it, from the same company, DD15 set 475, all I wanted was the idle shutdown off, they also turned it up to 85, though I didn’t ask them too, but whatever, anyway the other guys truck was set the same.

I’ve not had any problems running 65-70, while he runs foot on the floor, his is going to the shop about every weekend.
Some people think if it can do 85, it needs to stay at 85.

My suggestion is to call Cummins and give them the serial #. They will tell you what you can turn the engine up to. From the hp setting and gear ratio it is set to, the truck is set up to get the best fuel mileage. With the current gears ratio it is going to be lousy on hills

25 hp ain’t worth the time or money they’ll charge..... the speed limiter can be changed by any flunky in a minute with little cost....

Not to interested in driving 85 anywhere or anytime. I do however want my gear to be fully open to whatever I choose to do with it. I know that sounds bad but its kind of a matter of principal.

It depends on how you drive.

It can help you climb a hill better, if traffic permits, but it kills you if you don't keep an even keel/speed.

If you can read traffic and not slow and speed up all the time then more HP is a good thing.
