Hello Drivers: Just a question to the experts, I'm Buying a truck that is five to ten years old. I've heard on this blog that some shippers and some brokers are refusing drivers loads with older trailers, is there any problem with having an older truck? Cause I might just buy one:biggrin_25525:

    Thanks for your opinions.:biggrin_25515:

I have only heard of carriers refusing to lease on older tractors, but many are changing their policies to match the current trend (more older iron on the road than before). Also many shippers or customers do have limits on trailer age though. The companies that usually limit age are associated with the automotive field. Ford and GM both have age limits and inspection standards...both companies are strict on these. Trailer age can be a real issue since many don't get the care they need to live as long as a tractor. Plus you figure in the weight they carry and the beating of the roads, a person can understand the age limit rules.

i second what he said. truck age only seems to come into play with the company you lease to. i believe a lot of that was that if you had a truck payment you were less likely to be independent. i have heard of trailer age, but mostly in vans. never been a issue on the flat side that i am aware of. most of the shippers and brokers i run across seem to be impressed by a clean, well maintained, sharp looking truck and trailer, regardless of age. not a bunch of cheap chrome hung on a pos truck. just clean , nice appearance has always worked for me. free advice and worth every penny . johnny

What I have noticed is the care and protection of the Cargo. Does the trailer Leak, any holes in the floor. That is the main concern with the Shippers, Safety of their personal and protection of their cargo..

Nobody cares or has asked the age of my equipment. The only demand a few have made is NO holes in trailer.
