I'm an owner operator, so never had anyone tell me that I couldn't bring my dog with luckily. My fellow lady trucker to be friend is interested in trucking after spending some time with me. She has called 2 companies...Roehl and 1 other...and they have told her NO to a pitbull of ANY weight. And NO to dogs over 60lbs. So where can I send her? I need the security of having my pit with me...he's a big sweetie but it's good to have him with. I think she'd really want that too. Any ideas???
Any OTR training companies that allow a big dog/pitbull??

Is she looking for a trucking company that has it's own CDL school or a private CDL school.
Don't ask,don't tell.
It's not a 60 lb pit bull, it's a 20 lb poodle; that's what the woman in the pet store told me.Last edited: Nov 4, 2015
MidWest_MacDaddy and mamaclutcheasy Thank this. -
When I was giving her advice, she stated that she didn't want to go to a CDL school and then look for a job...she was interested in PRIME or ROEHL. A company with CDL training. I said I had heard decent things about Roehl but I'd run into some PRIME drivers that weren't very happy. I was wondering about the "don't ask don't tell" lolol....I'm in a different position as her...with my own truck I have NO idea how often the "bossman" sees your truck. I suppose she could have her hubby come pick up the dog or something...it's all the logistics.

My question has always been...why would you do that to a dog? Little bitty prison cell with a giant hound just laying there 23 hours a day is kinda unfair. I dig the connection between a human and a dog I LOVE my mutts but I've always thought it a disservice taking one of the big ones on the road with me.

We are currently in the process of changing companies too. Yes, because of our dog. My husband and I drive together, our CRST recruiter told us no problem, we can have our dog with us. We were so naive and trusting, never asked for a second opinion. At the end of training we found out no pets with CRST. We were very disappointed, yet stayed with them to have 4 months under our belt. Mother in law was taking care of our dog but she's getting tired of it which we understand, she was only supposed to have him for 3 weeks. Long story short, Werner will take us. No breed or size restriction on dogs which is fantastic because ours is a 60 lb pit bull. Placid and lazy and is happiest when he's literally by our feet. For him having the house for himself without us being right there is the real punishment. You see, we adopted him from a shelter, we can't just give him up now. Yes, we are missing out on better companies because of him probably, but we are responsible for him. Some might think it's stupid. Whatever. So yeah, Werner will take any dog, with a $250 deposit which will be deducted from your salary over the course of a couple of months.
