A 13 or 18 would make no differance. They still have the same top gear raito. The double over drive they have is no higher than a single over drive of the 10 speed.
Any one running 4:10 gears or higher

To days engines make power at a much lower rpm than engines of 10 or more years ago. A dump truck 10+ years ago with 4:10s would be high geared. 4.33s,4.56s, 4.89s, and even 5.38s were the norm. To day 4.10s are on the low side. 3.91s, or even 3.70 are being used. Road tractors are now useing 3.08s, 3.21s, 3.36s 3.42s.and 3.55s. years ago they would use 3.73s. 3.90s, 4.10s or even 4.33s. Most trucks are spected to keep the rpms at or near the peak torque of the engine at highway speeds. With the lower rpm engines of today, todays trucks are geared higher than older trucks. Todays engines make max torque at about 1200 rpms. 10+ years ago they were at 1600 or more depending on engine. (2 stroke detroits 1900+).For this reason I think its time for Eaton Fuller to design a new 18 speed for the heavy haulers and off road guys. Mack did this already. The curent 18 is great but i think a wider over all gear ratio is in need. I think they need to get the low hole down to 16 or 17 to 1 leaving OD where its at at .73 over.
