Buying any kind of used truck from any retail dealer is a gamble, unless you know the history of it. You can take anything they tell you with a pinch of salt. If you have a truck in mind, then get it properly checked out by someone who knows what to look for.
If I had to do it all over again as an O/O I would buy new, bite the bullet and do it. Yes it's a very difficult proposition but in my estimation it's the way to go ultimately. I've just had too many problems with my truck I bought 2 years ago.
But it's been a massive lesson on not what to do.
But like everything else, opinions will vary on this topic.
    Good luck.

I have been in trucking of 21 years and i know everyone can't buy new, and a used truck is all that you can afford, but trucking is not for the weak at heart.
When buying a truck you need to know trucks, a used truck will need repairs and can be expensive, so be prepared before you buy.
Then shop around try arrow truck sales, truck nation and before you buy have them checked out, and remember one day you might regret being in trucking.
The cost is going up and the pay is going down even faster, big companies are forcing owner operators out. be careful.

I bought one from them once... I paid for the warranty. And was darn glad I did! However I think I'm actually the person that made them change what they pay for on a warranty nowadays... ( snark)
long story but we went round n round n I fortunately won, however the warranties these days are much different. This time I bought from a dealer in Houston, ( international ) and darn glad I did. They have been nothing but good to me, fixed things on this truck beyond what was expected.
i would point blank have Select show me what's covered in the warranty...

I bought mine from them in Fontana. I think they are an authorized freightliner dealer, so the trucks they have are properly inspected before they buy them out. They also finance thru Daimler that owns freightliner.
I didn't get the warranty but they have "buyers assurance" for the first 3 months I think, which replaced my a/c compressor and batteries at no cost. Also negotiated to have them paint the truck to be included in final cost.
I can't say I regret the purchase, my truck has served me well.

Just my 2 cents but get yourself a good mechanic if you know one and have him go over the truck with you before you buy. This is really important if you aren't mechanically inclined. A good mechanic can tell you what's going to fail and need replacement shortly regarding suspension, driveline etc. The engine is best to get an oil sample and get an idea. Still gonna be a crap shoot but best to be prepared. Breakdowns not only cost repairs but lost revenue opportunities. Seen more than one guy go broke buying a used(and new) truck. Good Luck

I purchased my 3rd one in Charlotte last year. Got a very good deal and paid for a warranty and sooooooo glad I did. Truck has been very good......

Some Selectruck locations are franchised...so you cant do things like buy a freightliner warranty, among other things(Greensboro is one of these locations)
