You've got a lot of options in Memphis for local.....if you have your endorsements, you could work for FedEx Freight, Old Dominion, Saia Freight, Transforce. All of which have large terminals on the south side of town. I can't remember if ABF is in West Memphis or Memphis, but that's an option as well. Averitt Express is always looking for local drivers out of Memphis.

 

Cardinal Freight is in Southaven, MS. They operate out of that AWG there.

 

How about Kroger? They're on the southeast side of town and you'll be home every night working for them. I know of a guy who works at the Memphis location now. He worked for the location in Atlanta too and he's thinking of going back to Atlanta so he could rekindle his marriage. He does a mixture of delivering loads to the stores and yard work.

 

There is also Ascend Transportation (formerly Milan Transportation). They are based closer to Jackson but they have a presence in Memphis. They may be able to work with you.

 

Empire Express, JNJ Express, and Ozark Motor Lines have local dry van positions.

I'm not for sure on this one, but Perimeter Transportation is on Holmes Rd, and I'd give them a call. @Chinatown keep this one in your notes also. They want guys or gals who live within 75 miles of town and it's a regional job mostly. They'll run guys to Wisconsin and Ohio they're home weekly.

I didn't think to mention intermodal. If you do go that route, go with a reputable container hauler. JB Hunt, Schneider, and Swift are all good options for intermodal there. You won't ever have to look for a chassis with them. Also, check Hub Group too. They have an opening on indeed for a Memphis based driver.
