What division are you looking at? (tanker, flat, van) they do run the divisions independently from each other. Specifically tanker and tanker is split into two divisions. They also pay differently based on what division you are in. I worked for them for a short time when I decided to go back on the road a few yrs ago. I worked as a company driver and I did look very closely at their lease purchase program.

There lease purchase program is legit and they are very open and transparent with the program. Upper management will sit down with you to discuss and answer all questions. The VP of Bulk operations is a great upstanding guy. They do give you a amortization schedule based on 60 months at what ever their current interest rate is. Its basically a 60 month loan and you can write a check at any time to get clear title to the truck. I could go into great detail, but your best bet is to talk to them about what you want and what they have to offer currently. They will give you a copy of the lease to review with your own attorney if you wish, so that should tell you something.

Only problems I had was...lease purchase drivers are also governed to 68 (just like company) and you cant touch the trucks computer until you own it.(you will sign a document pertaining to this) So although it is not like getting your own financing, its as close as you can get. BTW you could get your own financing and pay the truck off and get the title as I stated above. This was all based on info I received a few yrs ago so thing may have changed some.

Vans and flats pay by the mile while tanker is %. They say hourly on tanker but its really % since every load has a cap. Basically, if your run should take 10 hrs you get paid for 10hrs. If you get it done in 9 great, if it takes 11 you still only get paid for 10. it based upon a 50 MPH average if I remember correctly. Not a big deal as far as I'm concerned since Most mileage pay is also short on miles. If you really think about it doesn't matter if you get paid mileage or their way of doing hourly it all has a cap. If your 500 mile load only pays 468 miles its the same thing.

I could try to answer specific questions if you have any. I would say in general that they are a good company that is very diverse. If you are in the tanker division and things get slow you will be expected to pull dry van until things pick up. If you live locally you may even be asked to haul logs as well. They do not lay anybody off and will not pay any unemployment claim.(they are up front with this)

They have many long time drivers who fit in very well with their operations, I wasn't one of them. I found Halvor Lines to fit my personality better, but that is not to take anything away from Foster. I would say they are worth a shot and if things don't work out they are also very professional if you have to part ways.

    Tdgraham Thanks this.

I've not worked for them but I can say that they have a good reputation in town, good equipment, and many long time drivers.

They must not be half bad either to work for. A buddy of mine still speaks highly of them after being let go after having an accident related to improper cargo securement.

Being in a small town in have known Jeff in passing for many years. In every interaction I have had with him he comes up as a stand up guy, not only in the trucking world but outside of it where our interests have crossed paths.

One other thing to note. Jeff still holds a cdl and will occasionally take a truck out for the day. I view that as a plus. I've worked for companies where no one running it had ever driven a class 8 truck and without exception they all suffered for it.

As noted by the other poster halvor lines is also a decent company and is just a couple blocks down the street should Jeff Foster not be the right fit for you.

Also if dry bulk is your thing you might also wish to check out Dave Evans Transport which is also right in the same area of town. They have a bit of a rep for running a tight ship so to speak but are a good fit for some folks.

Hey Dirtnut, I'm not sure what they currently pay O/O's on the van side. I would call Leyla (recruiter) as she will have current info for you.

Not to resurrect a dying thread. BUT.
Having delivered TO Jeff Foster. If they treat their drivers half as well as they have treated me, just making a delivery to them. I would seriously consider them for future employment.
Same with Halvor Lines, I would call them too if I was looking to move from where I am now.

Now, as far as Dave Evans, I have seldom had a positive experience with them. Other then the loader op. He's always been good to me.
