I'm currently signed on with a medium size company but omg they are clueless on how to dispatch a truck.
I've tried load boards and booking own freight but that market sucks. Working with company contract freight definitely seems more beneficial especially with shorter runs.
So I'm curious in current market if it be worth the move to schneider dry van midwest maybe over the road occasionally owner op division.
I mostly like there self dispatch and no cameras, current company has that dumb lytq system that I can't stand
anyhow any current drivers/ owner ops give me some info thanks
any info on schneider owner operator jobs

He's not currently a I/C, but is still there so maybe he can answer some questions. @Opus
Lonesome and LtlAnonymous Thank this. -
well, just briefly.......
65% of the load with their trailers
The load as posted is what it pays, all in fuel and everything (no need to do a bunch of math)
Probably 80-90% D/H
Insurance all in (bobtail, WC, collision, cargo), is $135 a week (does not include personal health insurance)
They do have private health insurance available.
Lots of freight, particularly in the Midwest
Quarterly statements that break everything out.....makes it easy for your CPA (I'll see if I can find an example)
No hand holding, no forced dispatch. You pick your load and you're expected to deliver on time. No muss, no fuss, no BS.
No charge for Q com, you pay for pre pass ($15 I think) and tolls
decent fuel discounts.....varies and changes every 2 week.....Worst .05, best around .60
Mostly good equipment.....really no problems at all (unless previous driver curbed one out)
Truck has to be inspected very 90 days....they pay
You'll need a sliding 5th wheel......you'll not use it, but you gotta have it
Overall, my experience with the Schneider Choice program was positive.......honestly, I can't think of a negative thing to say. Gross was between $160k and $190k.......net around $100 before taxes. Pretty nice folks to work with as well. Never had a threat or an ugly thing said to me.
Thats all I got. Good luckLorry29673, Lonesome, truckerman75103 and 5 others Thank this. -
But yeah im mostly interested in there self dispatching, thats with there contracted freight as well?
i get the need for sliding fifth wheel but yeah glad its not needed i have one but its a pain.
I understand maintenance is my responsibilllity but will they advance you funds if you need it? thxs -
They don’t pay any tolls for new hires just pay for the grandfathered guys…..
Mt trailer search’s can suck…. And load cancellations can be a drag , they’ll take the load back if a company guy needs it. And leave you to find something else…..Lonesome Thanks this. -
Mostly contracted freight, Home Depot, Walmart, Target, etc....It's ALL self dispatch....ALL self dispatch
If you chose to join, I suggest going to a truck junk yard for your 5th wheel (it's what I did). $1500 installed.
I never heard about 'advancing funds'......I had my own CC with a pretty decent limit, so it wasn't a problem. That said, I think the answer is No.
To @Cat sdp.......
When I left a year ago, ALL contractors paid tolls. They let it slide for a year, but when the contract came out in 2021, everybody had to pay.
As far as them pulling freight for company drivers, I never saw it. I suspected it a couple of times and I called the shipper only to find out the load had been cancelled like Schneider said. One time I actually went to the place (because I was headed that way anyway.....and sure enough, it had been cancelled).Lonesome Thanks this. -
Also, they file your IFTA for you as well.
If you do decide to join and you need help or advise, please don't hesitate to contact me.
I did it for 8 years, and decided that I'd rather be at home.
First tip, Don't go unless you know how you're going to get out.Lonesome Thanks this. -
but yeah mostly just looking for a strong freight base that will keep me busy. Every big company has its bs to deal with but self dispatching is the important thing here. -
I'm sorry that Schneider is an "unfortunate" choice. Perhaps there is a more 'fortunate' choice.
Good lucktruckerman75103 Thanks this. -
I've been around the block you can say and have worked with lots of companies and asked here a few times at who would be the best, but self dispatching is obviously the most important, maybe have a dispatcher for hiccups. I know megas ain't always the best choice but schneider definitely has a solid freight base so I don't know. But I know dry van freight in general is still in shell shock from this crappy downturn so hopefully that reverses soon
