I was leased to RexDon for a total of 2 years. They are a small family owned company that does power only. I am sure you know what that is if you are asking about them. They were very fair and the pay was always on time and if there was ever a question you could call and talk to them. You are not a number. They only have a few disptachers and you have one assigned to you. Not sure what the there truck count is as of now as it has been a few years since I was there but they have around 100 trucks or so at any given time.

A lot of retirees or guys that are burned out of bumping docks tend to be the ones leased on there. They are very easy to deal with and as long as you make your deliveries on time or whatever day and time you tell them you will be there you will not have a problem. You are usually given a few day time window to make that delivery. So you set your schedule. Most of the time it is the trailer dealer hours or whatever time you tell a customer if you are making a direct delivery. I woud say 50/50 of new to used trailers for delivery. I have had trailers that were customer pick up and were not road worthy IMOP to pull and would refuse the load. They would agree and put you on something else

Now the a few of the tougher things that you will have to deal with doing power only. Any bobtail miles are not paid. This can be very little or quite a lot depending on what area of the country you are in or if you are trying to find a trailer going a particular way and may have to bobtail far to get it. A lot of the loaded paid miles will make up for this but you can also get burned and end up in a dead area and have to eat the miles. They claim to be non forced dispatch but 1 issue a lot of people had was they just wouldn't offer anything else and would have to eat the miles to get out if you didn't want that trailer and where it was going. Usually another dead area.

Not sure what the pay is now but then it was 78% if you were using there fuel card and 80% if you ran your own. They will provide base plate and take out of each check. You also can get bobtail insurance with there insurance company. They pay a set amount for tolls and you get 100% of the fuel surcharge

Most of there customers are in the Midwest as that is where a lot of trailer mfg are. You will also see a lot of VA as they pull a lot out of Utility trailers in either Marion or Glade Spring. There were drivers who would refuse to run the NE or the West Coast but I would run all 48 and you are expected too. After paying there dues some were excempt from this.

I left and had a falling out with the dispatcher after my dispatcher left to take another position in the company and was given another who I just could never connect with. I tried to get changed to another but was not allowed, as when you are working for a small family business they will always side with there own. I just would rather have a dispatcher ask me for a favor and take this not so great load but I will take care of you on the next one instead of not offering me anything else and trying to force you to take it and me losing money. I miss the laid back lifestyle of not bumping docks or dealing with freight but I do not miss running all over the country and being gone. My choice at the time but it is not always feasible to be home every weekend if there are no trailers coming your way. Big thing there is your home location and there major freight lanes are the issue there. I know people who are still there and have been for many years.

I do know there is a current leased operator on this forum but I will be happy to answer any questions as well

    trucker91 Thanks this.

As far as the average per mile it has been a few years so I am sure it is a little different now. I don't discuss rates with the people I know who are still leased on. I was averaging approx. 1.38 for all miles but that could change each week depending on the amount of dead head that you run. Some weeks were way under that and some were way over if they had a good plan for you. Some guys are home everweekend while others stay out. Just depends on how the trailers are moving in your area and if you are ok with bobtailing home if your somewhat close.

Lone Ranger 13 I see that you live in Asheville area. You would have a lot of trailers out of Utility in VA not far from you but the dead head to get home could be a issue at times. Most of the trailers into NC are Charlotte, Greensboro or Raleigh area. They used to do a lot for Pinnacle in Wilmington but that dead head back to VA is a tough one.

Stacie is see you live off 81 in Pa. Same thing as far as dead head. they used to do a lot out of Reitnouer in Reading area or from the Great Dane plant of I80 and I cant remember the town. I know there is a lot for trailers out of Indiana or VA plants that always went to NJ, NY or Philly area.

You will stay busy for sure and if you sit it is because you did not like the load they offered. At 1 time they had way more trucks than freight but I think that when the economy went bad after 08 and the trailer business about dried up a lot of trucks left and others retired. Right now I am sure everyone is staying busy. I know of 1 driver who was running new tanks from Oh to ND oil fields and bobtailing back and turning those as fast as he could and getting paid both ways.

But expect that some weeks you could easily have 600 to 1200 miles bobtailing or as little as 60. It all adds up and some days can be 200 or more. They pulled a lot into St. Louis area from VA but then you usually went to Brazil IN to great dane or Moberly MO they both are roughly 200. That is the one down side to power only. Other days you would deliver and have a trailer at that dealeror only 15 away. You just never know and trying to outthink the freight doesn't always work

Things maybe diff but Rexdon never got into the loaded trailers like concerts, circus or any of the travelling shows like Trailer transit or Powersource does and they would never load out trailers like some other power only companies would do. They used to pride themselves on that when a customer ordered a new trailer then a brand new never loaded trailer is what they got with no damage. Not sure if they have given into having to do load outs or not .I know a fair amount of the trailers out of VA for awhile when I left went to brokers who were offering pennies per mile but you could load the trailer on your way to delivery. We never did this.

I always figured that I would give up some money per mile to be able to not have to deal with freight, docks and brokers and not having to haul weight around and being able to bobtail and get the great fuel mileage and use the truck for personal use. I know they are great if you want time off just let them know and you are always there and they do not bother you about coming back to work. I went through some medical issues with my better half and they always had me home for her treatments and I would call when ready to go back to work. I know they had some of the retired guys from around the Midwest who used to go home for most of the winter and they just said call us when your ready.

My advice is to call and talk to Matt who I think is still there, he is a recruiter/safety and fill in dispatcher and ask him. They are worth checking out for sure. Very family based company

Lone Ranger 13 and trucker91 Thank this.

I started with RexDon in 1995. I took a 2 years break because I thought I could do better out there .
I found out just how good I had it real fast !!!LOL

I NEVER sit I cant handle sitting I will bounce before I sit .
That is just me though .

Right now I am as busy as I want to be .
I like the fact that I can do what I want when I want and how I want to !

I have never had any pay problems EVER .
I have never been lied to EVER.
I have never been punished for turning down anything EVER .

I think that we do loaded trailers every now and then but I don't do them myself.
If I wanted to be a freight hauler I would lease on to JB HUNT.
There again that is just me .

I like the fact that they get to know me and my family.
They know what I like to do and they let me do what I like to do .
I don't think of them like my family they ARE my family !!!

I had the same dispatcher for 13 years until he retired and I can honestly say it took me along time to get over the loss of MY dispatcher !!
It was like losing my brother !!!

Are they perfect maybe not but to me they are the bast there is and they are my family and family is always the best !!!
If you would like to join our family I would just say give Matt a call at 1-800-334-1983 and tell him that Buck said to give him a call and he can tell you all the little details .

If you do come over just keep your eyes peeled for my old Marmon and give me a shout .

Just remember to me they are family so I may over look little things that may bother you .
I have supported a pretty good life my family hauling for them and I plan on being here until I die or they chase me off with a big stick !!!

The trailer business is like any other part of trucking it goes in cycles right now we are on the up stroke .
It did get pretty ruff in 08-09 but the whole economy took a hit .
Once you get to know the trailer system it gets real easy to know where and when to go .

If I can be of any help just drop me a pm and I will answer any thing I can .
