Very curious to know, i began my trucking miles in CA in March 2014, after living in Fairbanks for 4 years, sure miss it and plan on going back when i get a year or more under my belt. I understand i may need at least 2, i am sure willing to work for it, considering companies are limited in choice. Thank you in advance!

I used to live in Homer and did runs from Portland or Seattle with multiple drops from Fairbanks to Kenia. Since you have lived in Alaska you know how isolated the roads can be so you have to love the isolation. I had to switch to running lower 48 runs for family reasons but will be retiring in a few years and heading back to Alaska to live out my golden years. Most companies I know that run to Alaska will want at least 2-3 years and a good driving record. Because of the nature of the roads your on they have to know they can depended on you and that you can solve problems while on the road. If you like the driving it's a great run. After you have 2 years with a good record start applying and talking to them. It may take another year before they hire you but keep putting a bug in their ear.

I am not sure if you read my thread mentioned earlier. I just left Fairchild Freight which is one of the companies that has company drivers. I believe their requirement for Alaska was a minimum of 5 years experience. Other companies that run the Alcan are Carlisle, Lynden with all their subsidiaries, Walmart has a small fleet, Sleipner Trucking and Vic Hoskins trucking. Most companies are using mostly owner operators. Vic Hoskins trucking used to have 50 to 60 trucks and I think he has two trucks left and the rest are all owner operators.
Brownline which is part of Lynden hires new drivers, but they are teams. I don't think it is save to run teams on those roads since there is no way you can get any proper rest being bounced around.

Thank you very much for the useful tips and info, i am on my tippy toes out here for maintaining a good record because of what you mentioned, i had one overweight citation a week ago by 1000 lbs, it was a stupid mistake on my part😳 it is now a constant reminder for the future to come. What part of AK do you plan on moving back to? The isolation of the roads is the love of it for me, and as you know the scenery😀 I drove AK highway last year in my beater truck to CA, its had a grip on me ever since. Your response is very much appreciated. Thank you.

Ive herd good things about Lynden, i used to work near the Carlisle yard, that was when i did warehouse. Excellent info though, working down here for the next few years seems to be the gateway back North for now. Which i have no complaints over!☺ haha i agree with you on the team perspective..i like driving solo best, would not go any other way.

I have not looked into being a owner operator. .still a very new subject for me ive been told i would be good for it sonce i dont take many days off and enjoy being in the truck. The only issue is still adapting to utilizing all i can to cook in the truck. Because the other options are a slap in the face (usually) definitely have had my share of good resturaunts out here, so far.

I still have a cabin in Homer and plan on living there. I like the weather in Homer and being on the ocean.

That stretch of road would probably make for some nice photography.
