Just curious if there are any Day Cab Owner Operators out there making enough to make a living and maybe share how you got started and how you ended up being a Day Cab Owner Operator?

I'm not a day cab owner but I do see the load boards full of short runs. You could be home everynight and have less operating cost. I'd imagine it could be a good gig.

123loadboard.com and I pull a flatbed out of wilson nc. I run otr but have thought a lighter daycab could work in my area just as well.

Run a daycab local last 8 years, dedicated shippers and receivers. Make more $$$$ than OTR.Takes a while to get the business, trick to it is always be willing to do a little extra for the customers. There are business owners willing to pay a little extra for getting the job done the way they want it done.Try to make a good impression, and do not be the typical complaining truck driver. Be professional in your business.

bump on this thread. Anyone have any experience/suggestions about running loadboard freight for short runs around new england? Seems doable based on the loads I see in DAT but maybe there's something I'm missing?

My father did his whole trucking career of 25 years with only daycabs. Never any OTR. Payload=money.

We once (1980's) had a guy with a day cab R Mack that did our short haul stuff, direct hauling from a shipper.....He worked F/T as a fireman and worked for us on his pass days.....He did real good at it, trips were all mostly under 300 miles......Problem is not much is made here anymore, and getting worse by the year, so not sure what the viability would be now....Likely depends where you're located....Start up U.S. manufacturing again and we might have a chance at some semblance of what we once had available....

Depands on your locality. I make a nice living with daycab, have for many years, but you have to find a good shipper, and keep them happy.
