Not quite sure about the Houston area, but over in the Northeast, Grocery jobs are one of the BEST driving jobs out there. Practically all of them are Union (SuperValu, ACME, Wakefern, Wegmans) and the potential to make over $120k is possible at top scale. Easy job driving Private Fleet trucks from their Distribution Centers to their Grocery chain stores and it's all pretty much live unloads too. I know ACME and SuperValu pay OT after 8 or 40. They get paid by trip rate, so if you did a 12 hour run in 8 hours, you still get paid the 12 with OT after 8. Wakefern/Food Haulers make almost $30 an hour. Union job too. Wegmans has Union and Non Union barns. Non Union is around $30 an hour and raises are around .50 cent every six months, so it's basically no cap payrate. Free healthcare, pension, 401k, and some offer Severance pay as well, like ACME. Wegmans Non Union barn, healthcare is around $50 a week for family coverage, and they're guaranteed 8 hours a day. Hours will vary depending on bid runs and they're pretty much a 24/7 a week operation. Extra days are paid time and half. Second extra are paid doubletime. Holidays you get paid triple time.
Driving for a Grocery Distribution Center is about as good as it gets, as far as trucking is concerned. If I weren't happy at where I am now, I would DEFINITELY be driving for a Grocery Distribution Centers Private Fleet.Tuga Trucker Thanks this. -
And also...I don't know about the other Fleets, but ACME has a combination of Auto's and Manuals. Only thing about trying to get in with these Grocery Companies is that they require A LOT of experience and they choose only the best of the best. SuperValu you need MINIMUM 5 years experience. ACME you need 2. Wegmans...fuhgetahboutit. They're almost impossible to get in. Hope this gives some type of help of what it MIGHT be like in Houston
