I keep smelling antifreeze in my cab when pulling a hill (when the truck heats up), I also smell it coming out of the sleeper heater vent... there has been no visable leaks and level remains the same on the plastic tank?
Im supposed to go to Texas out of Seattle and wonder if I should cancel or go for it.... I need the money and cant afford repairs anyway so Im think go for it, monitor it and get it repaired in Texas if need be...any thoughts?
Oh its a 2006 FL Columbia with a Detroit S60 (874K miles on it) runs awesome though, I bought it last year from Gordon and it was fully gone through and comes with a warentee but the warentee doesnt cover heating or cooling or EGR's.... I hope its not an EGR but if it is can I still drive it for a while ? like 2200 miles ?
Antifreeze smell but no visable leaks and no codes ?

Could be the heater core

I just noticed after doing another check I have a leaking oil pan, not dripping on the ground though just a little around the edges.... where is the heater core ?
-
Look under lower bed, lift up and feel next to heater box for wet spot, look at tube that a/c water runoff comes out under bunk for leak , you can use cut off on heater hose at eng. to turn off rear heater only.Keep gal. extra. with you if it starts leaking more.
ernie161 Thanks this. -
Cool I'll go check it out... I just ran the engine at high RPM 1500 for 15 minutes while I crawled underneath the rig... the oil blow tube smells like oil only, no indication of water in oil at all, no oil in coolant bottle nothing to indicate any problems at all just that #### smell in my cab worries me so much... I owe my brother 10K still and not paying family would be very bad for me.
However the small rubber tube that is connected to coolant bottle was wet but not leaking abnormal amounts so Im wondering if somehow this small drip could cause the smell to come inside the cab ? -
no heater core leaks.... well I guess I'll monitor it and see what happens. Now all I smell is antifreeze that smell is stuck in my nose.
Talked to my Dad he said he removed the coolant cap last month while under pressure and antifreeze went all over the engine (and himself) so maybe that is the reason for the smell...baha Thanks this. -
Just flip recir. switch on dash, you wont be getting outside air in the cab.

Thanks... I have a bad feeling its my EGR but Im going to Texas so hopefully they have a good shop there.

Stop at truck wash get eng. washed. smell will be gone, EGR. is a fix that should be done at shop near home.

Check your hose clamps on the supply and return hoses to your bunk heater. They could leak very little fluid for you to smell it. Not enough to really show a lower level in your system.
