I did a search and found Zero on this. I've installed more antennas on trucks than I care to remember but this is something totally new to me. I'm going to Alaska next week and will be picking up a class A motorhome in Anchorage and driving it up to Coldfoot in the Arctic Circle and back to Anchorage. It is recommended that you run a radio up that way and I agree with that statement. Problem is that there is no place to even use a magnetic mount antenna. Bumper is rubber, front cap is fiberglass as are all side panels. I even called Forest River, the manufacture of the motorhome, and they had nothing. Anybody got any ideas. I have thought about putting a mount on the mirror with big zip ties since they are covered with plastic shrouds, but that will create a no ground problem. But then magnetic mounts don't have a ground either, right. Any ideas would be appreciated.
ANTENNA MOUNT ON CLASS A MOTORHOME???

Walmart has several of them on the Web site including the one you supplied the link for. Just trying to find one in a store, don't have time to order one. Thanks for the info.

You might try doing a search on home made dipole antennas here on the forum. There have been some interesting discussions about making those by using two CB antennas, "back to back" so to speak. Here's a pretty good thread about fiberglass cabs in general http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...-antenna-solution-for-fiberglass-cabs.135122/
From what I understand the magnet mount antennas use the ground plane of the metal roof they sit on. The magnet and roof act like a capacitor to create a ground plane. I am probably not explaining it well but but basically, yes it is grounded to vehicle.
The dipole might take some fab minor fab work (drilling an extra hole or two), and I'm assuming you have a west coast mirror arm to hang this off of but maybe it would work for your situation.
Good luck!rabbiporkchop, 12 ga and truckon Thank this. -
Thank you for that link, I will check it out but since it is a rental, drilling holes is a NO NO.
I checked out the link and it might just work. I'll get my morning coffee and inventory what parts I have here at the house and go to the area truck stop to get the items needed. I will have to use zip ties to secure this rig to the mirror arm because it is way too big to use the regular mount bolts, should be ok with this system.
Thanks againLast edited: Nov 11, 2015

I figured that out after I went to the link. I went out today and bought the necessary parts to construct that antenna mount rather than buy a window mount. Reports on those are not very favorable. Thanks for the help I believe it is good to go now.
