We use channel 1 in our loaders for us drivers to communicate with during loading of mulch in our walking floor trailers. This past week I noticed my antenna warning light coming on when I talk in the mic(not just keying it) when using channel 1. It's fine on 19 and the upper channels.
I think this coincides with me straightening my antenna slightly. It was leaning forward a little. Could this have thrown my swr off slightly? The other thing I did was add a ground cable (round approx. 5/16 of an inch) from the grab bar I'm mounted to to the framework my stack is attached to. This cable is approx. a foot long. Could this be a problem since it's round? I heard they should be flat.
I'm heading out to work shortly to recheck my swr and thought I'd ask for some advice on what might be causing this. I'm obviously concerned especially with the extra watts I'm running with the RFX75.
Could it be just an over sensitive light and my swr is slightly higher on 1 but not enough to be concerned about? Last I checked I was a little under 1.4 on the outer channels and just under 1.3 in the middle. This was using my Daiwa CN-801 cross needle meter and not the built in meter.
Thanks!

if you are under 1.5 and you dont see it jump when you move the antenna and cable, you are in good shape. Those warning lights are not the most accurate, and some have been known to be messed up.

Well channel 1 was at 1.5 and channel 40 at 1.3. I got 1 down to a little below 1.4 with 40 at 1.3 and 20 at 1.2 but I need a slightly longer whip for my FGT-4 as I'm maxed out.
So I guess I'll order one being the anal perfectionist I am. lol
In any case my swr is good enough for now and no antenna light on channel 1. -
Ok so this has got me thinking again since I have to order a new tip for my FGT-4 this would be the time to make any changes in antenna(s).
Would it make that much of a difference if I went to an FGT-5 over the FGT-4. I know height in might but would I really gain that much.
Also got me thinking of going back to the mirrors with new coax of course and going duals. They are more apt to get broke here tho.
I'm thinking going to the single FGT-5 in the current location of the 4' (in the middle behind the cab on the bar above the back window)would be the best move bang for the buck wise and I wouldn't really gain that much going to duals anyway. Or should I just get the needed longer tip for my 4 footer and call it good.
Would the continuous load 5.5 francis be better keeping in mind the wind faring on top blocking the first 3 feet of an antenna which is why I thought a top load was the way to go in the first place. It would be more flexible which is a plus.
If I did go back to mirror mounting the francis would be the way to go for better flexibility and 2-5.5' hot rods would probably kick ### but then I'm also buying all new dual phased coax and would it really be worth all the extra money in the end? -
Just ordered the FGT-5 and the 4" replacement whip. I can have the wife return the FGT-4 I bought at the truck stop she works at. Unfortunately they don't carry the 5.
I'm happy with the performance of the 4. Just think that extra foot will make a noticeable difference and since I can get a full refund on the 4 and get the 5 for an extra buck...
