I wouldn't call the phone number they put in the email. instead call what you know to be a legitimate # and verify the status of your dot audit.Big Don Thanks this. -
FMCSA do use email to contact the company for audit. This email I got before my audit.
In Commifornia it common to speak Spanish but it's illegal to use Spanish in government system so far.
BTW my audit was completed online, no home visit.

Action Required: Submit Documents to Complete Required Safety Audit
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is responsible for ensuring the safe operation of commercial motor vehicles on our Nation’s highways. Because your company has recently begun operating in interstate commerce, FMCSA is required to conduct a New Entrant Safety Audit of your company’s operations.
The Safety Audit will include a review of your company’s safety management controls in the following areas as applicable: driver’s hours-of-service and licensing, vehicle maintenance and inspection, driver qualifications (including drug and alcohol testing requirements), accidents, insurance, operating authority, and other safety and transportation records including any requirements for transporting hazardous materials.
Please submit legible copies of applicable documentation or a written explanation for your failure to submit the documentation via the Safety Audit Website, https://ai.fmcsa.dot.gov/NewEntrant/, within 20 calendar days from the date on official letter sent to your address. You will need your PIN number and your USDOT number to log in to the site. Additional documentation may be required. Descriptions of requested documents are attached.
Submission of all documents required for your operation may negate the need to conduct an onsite New Entrant Safety Audit at your place of business and may therefore reduce the amount of time to complete the required Audit process.
Upon review of the submitted documentation, a Safety Auditor will inform you of any further requirements on your part. Failure to provide the necessary documentation requested to perform the safety audit, in accordance with 49 CFR section 385.337(b), could result in your New Entrant registration being revoked and your company being placed out-of-service.
If you have any questions please contact name of the officer via email at dotofficer@utah.gov or via phone at 800 000-0000Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
its a scam. the state patrol in your state does the audit. i would forward that email to your state patrol dept.

I just had a audit 2 weeks ago first I received an e mail and then a letter came in the mail a week later. They are switching to a new system where everything is done on line they don't do home or office visits anymore.
Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
Even if it's legit, you would have grounds for claiming you thought it was a scam due to the way it was written.
Terry270, G13Tomcat, scottied67 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Like I said, I think it's a scam but I would still double check. And if it is real, and you contacted the head person at that office then at least you are shining light on what kind of idiot they have working for them. Not that they care; But still.
If it isn't real maybe they can put out some notices to others to not fall for this. Also send this to OOIDA and maybe they can put out a warning in their magazine if it is a scam, and if it's real they can shine some light on the idiot that sent the email.Big Don, scottied67 and Snailexpress Thank this. -
It is real. I followed up accordingly.
My original post was not so much questioning the legitimacy of the contact, as much as it was to point out the poor grammar and incorrect sentence structure, as well as the threatening undertone of the email in the first place. When I called, the woman's Mexican accent was so strong, I could hardly understand what she was saying to me.
Threatening to place someone out of service before they even have a chance to respond is very offensive and indicative of the bullying tactics so many bureaucratic agencies in our government employ these days.
These are the people in charge of our government that are supposed to be serving us, however, we know better, don't we?scottied67 Thanks this. -
