    Nevermind googled it.
Ive never ever ever called that a bobtail.

Thats a straight truck day or night.

Bobtail has nothing on the tail....

    But apparently im wrong?

@Blackshack46 Haha from the time it took you to ask your question, and then look up and answer your question was 4 minutes. You my friend do not mess around. And yea I've always called that a straight truck also. So I'm right there with ya, apparently everything I thought I knew has been a lie. I got a lot of things to think about tonight it looks like.....

I would typically refer to that style of truck as a straight truck also, but the job description on the AmeriGas website referred to it as a bobtail so that's why I worded the thread the way I did.

Oh yea dude I wasn't doubting you in any way, and hope I didn't come off as being snarky. I had just never heard it referred as that before. It's probably some politically correct crap. They can't call it a straight truck, because the gay trucks might get offended.

It's all good man! And I'm sure you're right, it's probably some politically correct nonsense. We can't be offending gay trucks in this politically correct world we live in! Haha

Cant offend the auto trans either. Ever since they came around, manual trans are always trying to push the autos buttons, but the auto trans is smart and doesnt engage the manuals.....

pay depends on the state you live in,

some bobtail drivers out in Washington near Seattle are getting $24 a hr!

I've been delivering Propane going on 2 years, working for a small company.

I've had to do some company provided training classes sponsored from the Propane gas association.

I work for a small company so not a lot of 'on call' but some overtime, occasionally, this past winter, none really.

I talked to some other guys at the class who work for the bigger companies in my area and they are making $22 a hour. on the 'on call' part they take turns, and from what they told me thats the worst part, but if it was me, I wouldn't mind the overtime, especially at $22 a hour.

if you are a people person, and like to drive around, and can get use to the cold, delivering propane is fun for the most part. there are parts just in the town I live in I never thought I'd see, or knew were there.

I will say, if you are a fat guy, you probably wont like it, because you have to climb in and out of the truck all day, usually about 15-30 stops, depending on if people are using their heating.

I've seen some fat guys come and go, just in the short time I've delivered.

I will say though, there is a 70 year old dude still working where I'm at, so the job isn't bad.

we paint tanks and do some service work in the summer, I guess all companies do that, in the summer, it can get boring, but I like to be bored, it pays the same.

Thank you for your reply! Lots of good information.

I filled out my online application for Amerigas on Tuesday so if/when I get an interview I'll know more about the pay and the frequency of 'on call'.

I'm not too worried about overtime or the physical activity that comes with the job because I already get plenty of that with my current job.

The perks of the job sound pretty good all in all. Full benefits package. Health Care, 401(k), propane discounts and a sign on bonus. Room to Grow within the company and the ability to transfer is also a plus.

I'll keep this thread updated as my journey continues.

In fort myers Florida they pay $21 an hour. I used to work for a local bud distributor and that's where a lot of the guys left to.

It's four 14 hour shifts. Overtime is usually a no go and there is an "on call" thing they do but I don't know much about it.

A lot of the drivers left, and came back to bud and the feedback I got was management sucked at the fort myers location and they're extremely policy driven.

I've thought about giving them a shot myself
