hello guys
i am interested in American heavy haul trucks
what kind of equipment they have
are those trucks still use aux box or it is past now
what kind of axles they use and what kind of clutch is this dry or wet one?
and what kind of load are they rated for
(i am interested in standard road vehicles not oilfield trucks or something special)
for example here in europe most of those trucks are 4axle short tractors with leading axle and 8x4 wheel formula with 3.5inch 5th wheel front and rear drawbar coupling
they are rated to 250ton 550 000+lbs
they are between 480-730hp maybe now
they have big hub reduction axles mostly rated to 70000lbs , some of them have 57000lbs and some 80000 but that depends on suspension ( ratios from ~4-6:1
they have mostly 16speed ZF syncro gearbox(13.8-0.84) with wsk440 hydraulic torque converter (1.7/2.1:1)
and additional cooling for clutch and retarder
also mercedes use their gearbox but ZF torque converter(but wsk440 now mercedes use own gearbox and voith clutch
(here is this clutch at work)

some of trucks are different but it is basic this
for example trucks for norway are equipment with allison 4700 automatic transmission
vehicles for Swiss are equipment with 8x6 wheel formula
there are some stronger trucks like man with v12 engine and 1000hp with 7speed automatic transmission and 8x8 wheel formula but they are rare
iveco offer up to 350ton 770000+lbs (8x8)
scania up to 250ton 8x4
daf up to 120ton 265000lbs
renault dont offer heavy haluge trucks so strongest is something like daf
man offer up to 250ton
mercedes offer up to 500ton 1100 000lbs ( 8x6) but there is no sense in this it is too much for a single truck
and volvo this week offer new fh16 600 with 7speed automatic allison 4700 rated up to 295ton
volvo target the Scandinavian market that is reason why they use allison
also there are some custom build scanias with allison but on every truck with it torque is limited to 1850lb -ft
wsk 400 ( on mercedes) is limited to 1700lb ft but there are some stronger trucks like 1850
mercedes now offer their own clutch for 2215lb ft
zf wsk440 offer up to 2000lb ft ( can be combinated with automated gearbox 12speed called tc-tronic)
but there is a special version of tc tronic called tc tronic hd with up to 2583lb ft )
here are some examples of those trucks

so bassicly it is this some trucks are rated for smaller weights and there are some cases with higher but generally this is average truck

all heavy haul trucks (fat trucks) are not standard. Oversize and overweight! Anyway!
They are not for public roads! -
i am interested for example what are specs for trucks like w900 or something that is same as road tractor
not oil field trucks and similar stuff
so i am interested in trucks made from components which are present on standard truck
all of those trucks from my first post have standard parts
our slt have same axles as tipper ......
for example scania 4axle for heavy haul have same cab as road truck same engine, same rear axles as tipper same suspension same front axle as road trucks , same chassis as normal trucks only difference is gearbox
until 2001 scania had their own gearbox for those huge loads ( grsh900r) but because of low demand for it future development has been stopped also it was no longer able to transmit torque) -
any one know who has a newer petebilt with a aux box the eaton at1202 ..i'm building a glider an need some part numbers for thr aux box ...just email me at jacracing7@myfairpoint.net

As far as heavy haul trucks around here go, your just looking at typical double framed 4 axle trucks with usually 500+ hp, 18spd trans, sometimes with a 2 spd aux trans, 46,000lb axles with heavy wall housings, but planetary axles with up to 150,000lb cap. can be an option as well. Rear air suspension is popular and as far as other stuff such as clutches, factory stock works well as long its built for a heavy hauler. i dont think there are many heavy haulers in the US that run automatics though i could be wrong. i just havent seen any yet around here.
