2017 Cascadia, just had it in the shop for this. They said it just needed a software update. Not too much later it came on again. From what I understand this light is for the emissions system. Is there any damage that can be done if I don't stop and get it taken care of right away?

My freightshaker dealer that works on ours said a amber light needs attention, but dont freak out. A red light, best shut that truck down as soon as possible... take it for what its worth, 3rd hand advice over the internet... :)

Mine does that when pulling heavy loads in hills going east. Then it goes out when I come back to the Midwest.

Maybe it's a New Jersey proximity warning light.

Generally the engine light with nothing inside means it should get checked but don't freak out. The engine with the wrench in it is more serious. If you get the red light you risk imminent damage to the engine or it's about to shut itself down.

Lots of minor issues it could be, but more than likely has something to do with the DPF system. May have a clogged DP filter that needs special attention. Regardless, there is a code that will point you in the right direction once you extract the info

Is this a Cummins?.....I agree with STexan...probably DPF related..They have several sensors before and after the filter.
Also the DPF needs baked and cleaned about every 250k...

It should show any active or inactive codes if the yellow light was or is on.

Do what striker said and then turn up the volume on the radio. Usually solves the software problems.

    Conversation with my boss:

    Check Engine light is on..................................................................
    Ok
Do you want to scan it and see what the problem is?
    Maybe
    Ok

    3 weeks later

Check engine light went off for a couple of days, it's back on now
    ok

We've had this same conversation for slightly over a month

    EZ Money Thanks this.

It just needed a software update. If the shop at the terminal had updated it correctly the first time I wouldn't have lost a day.

    EZ Money Thanks this.
