4 1/2 months ago we started up with our first flatbed company called, All Points Freight Inc. They apparently have been around since the mid 80's and have slightly grown in size since then. When we were hired, their was another young guy there but we never really got to know him because he quoted, " I'm leaving soon! " and a 2 months later he did, so did about 4 other drivers. We just came back from a Florida run which was a favour to the boss/owner of the company. A day before we talked to him and said, " This isn't working out! " and he agreed. He told us to unpack all of our stuff from the truck and go home, or go pick up some loads and then go home. Well the truck was already running, pre-trip was done and it was good to go, so we went. Before we left, the boss came back and asked us if we could take these loads to Florida because he didn't have another driver, so we did.

For the past four months it has been constant hell with that company. They put us down every second they get, take their personal lives out on os, use us for scapegoats, verbally abuse us. The boss is going through a divorce and decided that we would be the best people to take all of his frusterations out on. Their sign out front says, Licensed Mechanic.... WRONG! Their are two guys in the shop and neither of them are Licensed. An example of their work, Our friend who just left the company the other day, was driving one of the mechanics peterbilts and they were sending him through the mountains with no engine brakes and many other defects. They were holding a good majority of the smaller componants with bungee cords and said it was fine the way it is, he refused to take it, they fired him. Their example of fixing stuff on any truck is zip ties. Ridiculous!!

They pay a brand new driver, fresh out of school, 47cents a mile and pay drivers that have been driving for more than 4 years, 43cents a mile. How does that work?

    Anyways,
They have 9 out of 11 trucks sitting empty... Enjoy!

when your boss "told you" to unpack your truck, you should have done so. but you stayed, and i believe this was your mistake.

i don't need to be "told" to clean out my truck..............

i do that quite well on my own..............thanks...............

Different company. There is an Allpoints associaated with Dart, but it is not a flatbed company. Everything Dart does is dryvan work.

I did a little research into this company to get a more balanced picture of All Points Freight Inc, than the one provided here to see if they were worth an application. I'm a little skeptical that a moderate-sized company could function so poorly.

In essence, All Points Freight Inc's an LTL step-deck carrier (with a few flatbeds) that runs from Ontario to primarily the southern, mid-western, and western US (most common states were Florida, Lousiana, Missouri, Texas, California, and Washington). All backhauls are to Ontario; they are not authorized to run any other province. They have avoided the east coast till now, but since freight's so lean, they've begun to service that area. The average length of haul's 1000-2000 miles.

Their freight-profile's pretty much whatever'll fit on a step-deck. That said, they often haul machinery (especially forklifts), steel, pipe, and occasionally lumber for a local log-homes builder. However, they appear to avoid construction materials as a source for steady freight. Their fleet's made up of Volvos, Internationals, and Peterbilts, pulling step-decks and flatbeds. Unfortunately, they do not employ curtain-sides or RGNs.

Their paystructure's a litte more lucrative than some, offereing .42cpm+, $40 for tarping/untarping, $25 for picks/drops after first, benefits after three months, etc. I didn't get a figure for lay-overs, but I was told the average wait-time's about one day for a re-load. Being an LTL carrier appears to alleviate sitting. (I didn't ask about the specifics of the pay discrepancy relative to experience cited above because it wasn't my business.) Also, given the length of haul, drivers are typically home every other weekend, but no longer. If running to Florida and back, it's possible to be back every weekend.

At the time of phoning, only one truck was available: a '96 Peterbilt 379 used for local work, but reliable enough to run long-haul. The company's turn-over's standard: some stay for six months, some have been there for years. In fact, they have one O/O who's been with the company since it started.

I spoke with the safety supervisor to get a more clear picture of All Points Freight Inc and first clarified the treatment of drivers. They subtly acknowledged there was a bit of a rough patch, but nonetheless laughed off the extreme denunciation above, remarking that it "sounds like some driver got a real hard on." That said, they emphasized that they strive to treat their drivers well and fairly because they need them, just like every other company (and they're probably right on this. I'm with a great company now, but still have a few frustrations now and again).

The original author was correct that All Points Freight Inc does not have licensed mechanics per se; they're just mechanic's helpers with a great deal of know-how. However, a licensed mechanic is contracted to do more serious repairs and to sign-off on all repair work done for the company, so that complaint's a subtle misrepresentation. They do strive to maintain their equipment, which is evident from the inspection-to-out-of-service ratio available from DOT's Safer WEB Company Snapshot database. Moreover, they service area is very broad, so the equipment is often away from the yard, and repairs are often done at garages en-route, which means the equipment is still be repaired by a licensed mechanic. It's not being fixed by a bunch of hacks.

Hope this helps create a more balanced picture of this company for those who are interested.
