Route isn't on the national network so technically it has a 65' length limit, but https://www.mountaindirectory.com/sample/arizona.html seems to indicate that aside from some grades it is truck-friendly. Am I likely to raise eyebrows with 71' tractor trailer at 10pm?

It's not as bad as through Globe as far as grades. It's actually pretty easy. Been that way empty going to Snowflake numerous times

AZ 260 from Payson to Heber used to be infested with elk once the sun went down, but I haven't run it in 10 years. Just keep your eyes open.

i've found the fastest time to just stay on the interstate. shortcuts usually take longer. and consume more fuel.

gallup nm is 117 miles longer if i remember right. and it's 4 hours shorter. staying on the interstate.

globe isn't as bad as one of them roads that go straight up, straight down, over and over. LOL. can't remember which one it is. but it's a northerly direction to the 40.

Back in my flatbed days, if we ever ended up near Spokane, we'd run over and load heavy in the ID panhandle for Globe. One time I ran between Show Low to Globe. But just once.

Why not just run I-40 West then drop down I-17 into Phoenix? Not as pretty, but faster and less stressful.

Oh hell no! Lol. I remember my second year out, taking that US-77 from I-40 to Us-60 to globe, and man I ended up on a ride for my life with 43,000 lbs of freight from prime inc, lol. I'm glad I made it thru that one, I had great jake brakes. I don't know how I would feel about it now, but I DO know I wouldn't go that way to get to phoenix. Coming from the East that is.

I've hauled copper out of Globe along those routes. Not bad at all.

450 miles vs 390: I would have to get 6.1mpg on the shortcut (vs 7.0 on that hilly stretch of interstate) to burn the same amount of fuel and I almost never get worse than 6.5... Plus I've seen i40/i17 plenty.

I've got a fresh 70 & will be turning in my truck Friday so hos isn't an issue.
