I had the opportunity to spend a few weeks out west and check out some cities I may be interested in moving to.
The original plan was Phoenix(checked out Tucson also) so I visited, hung out,met a few friendly truck drivers and asked about freight in the area and and got a lot of positive answers.
After leaving Phoenix I drove over to Albuquerque on the way home(also went to Colorado Springs) and enjoyed the scenery much better in Albuquerque but didn't get to check out any trucking companies in the area since I only had 2 days there and wanna know what major companies are in the Albuquerque area? I would prefer smaller mom and pop type company and prefer to do 11 western regional. I'm currently employed with JB and they have positions in Phoenix but none in Albuquerque.
Safe travels...

TROOPER to TRUCKER Thanks this. -
There are some mom and pop out here. Mostly word of mouth and craigslist to find them. If you look into moving to the greater Albuquerque area. I would avoid the west side , Rio Rancho areas and the south side of Albuquerque. I live in the east mountain area, a short commute to Albuquerque. Up where I, it's about 10 degrees cooler then Albuquerque. Your money buys a lot more house and land. The people are a lot more friendly and just really nice area to live. There's a ski area and national forest in east mountain area. Those areas would the North and South 14 corridor. The greater Edgewood area. Anything east of of Edgewood and your out on the eastern plains.
The wind is nasty out there! I've been blow out of the cab of bobtail out on the plains!!!JudahMourn Thanks this. -

Check these two websites for jobs in Albuquerque:
Craigslist
Indeed
I did similar to what you're doing; looked for a new place to live. I'm in Nevada now after lots of research. I even looked at Globe, AZ.
city-data.com is an excellent website also and is one I used to help me decide.Last edited: Jul 20, 2016

Last time I was in Albuquerque some dude stood up from a pickup truck he was laying face down in and started shooting an automatic rifle.
Lotsa ppl laying down in the back of pick up trucks in that town.... Like the one dude said west side seems to give a bad vibe.
Post office has a decent size terminal there if you can get on there.JudahMourn Thanks this. -
Swift has a terminal in Albuquerque. Estes, Conway Freight, Mesilla Valley Trucking, ABF, there's some companies here.

When I ran OTR, it always seemed like abq was a dead area for freight. A delivery at that Walmart DC south of town always meant a long dead head to Phoenix or Amarillo or the meat plants in western KS. Seems like I remember always seeing day cabs pulling belly dumps around that area a lot. A local gig might be the way to go if you do move there. As others have said, check Craigslist for that area to get a feel for who's hiring for what.
