I am a class 3 driver, was an o/o for a few years hauling mainly automotive in Canada and US...saw the downturn coming a few years ago and got out of the business....decent paying work is hard to find in New Brunswick so am considering trying the patch....I have a question I would like to ask.... I am 58 years old (in good health)..... am I screwed before I start...I know the age thing has been a factor in not getting jobs....just a fact of life.... i am willing to work but don't want to be fighting a losing battle... also would need rotation that would enable me to come home....21/7 ..14/7 or something....relocating to Alberta is just not possible....I originally trained as a class 1 driver 20,yrs ago and have done TDG etc.... your opinions would be appreciated

If there is an opening they'd probably drop you right into hauling fracing sand or bulk cement

    Good morning all:

I am a recent graduate of a trucking college in Ontario. I possess strong mechanical skills, love the outdoors and all it has to offer/throw at me. :p

A tool pusher friend of mine suggested I apply as a dedicated water hauler (camp work) for the oil rigs in the western provinces as this is where I belong and where I wish to be.

May I ask where you experienced folks in the oil and gas industry suggest the best places to submit resumes?

    Thank you in advance.

Hey guys first post here. A little backround for me... Went out to Fort Nelson last year and got a job with Big Eagle Services. Started as a swamper there and the manager there, Warren, was really great about encouraging me to get my license and ended up getting my class 1 along with all the oilfield tickets (TDG, GODI, Ground disturbance, H2s etc.). I was doing mostly Vac/Hydrovac work there. I would go back there again, though i feel if i explore my options I could come up with something thats both busier and more desirable. I took the summer off to do an epic motorcycle trip. Fast forward to now... I'm in Edmonton trying to secure a job before having to make that voyage somewhere. I've read through a good portion of this thread and have to say thank you so much to guys like prairie boy and nitrogen etc. You guys are a wealth of knowledge and it's great of you to share it. I drove around Nisku yesterday to drop off some applications with outfits like Schlumberger, Baker hughes, Cleanharbors and Haliburton but was discouraged by the experience. They mostly told me to go apply online. Is there a better approach when contacting these big conglomerates?

this recruiter put me in touch with who I needed to talk to within hours. I ended up not taking the offer but that is not to say something would be better for you.

And yet others on the forum are advising us to walk in/door knock, because the employer like to see the initiative when you drive to AB and make like you are willing, motivated and interested.

Confused....is door knocking a better approach for the smaller companies? The bigger ones have HR departments to deal with recruiting?
