    Hi,

I want to know if someone has Airtabs installed on their truck/trailer?

Do you thinks they really help with crosswinds or it's just a waste of money?

I'm not interested on the claims they save so much fuel, but they have a lot of great reviews (on their website only!) from drivers claiming they make the truck much more stable in strong crosswinds...

Kind of makes me wonder if they really help with stability or it's just paid reviews?

    Thanks.

I have Airtabs on my tractor. The gap between tractor and trailer is enough to pull a refer trailer but I pull a dry box. This spacing is due to weight distribution. I have had them on for 3 years. Just last week I had some very strong winds running empty. The trailer had side skirts. Wind was coming off the left front. The truck was very stable. Hardly even noticed that I was empty. I have the tabs even down on the lower rear fairing (Volvo). In rain there is very little spray and can see on both sides of the trailer. In my book they are well worth the price.

I think they are worth the money. They break the curling airflow to prevent the vacuum areas. With a steady flow of air, crosswinds are reduced by diversion instead of being sucked into the vacuum areas. They are more beneficial for forward movement and reducing drag. I even seen them on jet wings. Not as many but they use them.

I've been thinking of getting these. They are cheap enough that, if they don't work, I'm not out much. It's good to hear from those that have them that there is a benefit. How do they do for fuel savings?

1000% worth the money. Driving through heavy-duty cross winds the last couple of days along I40... while they don't take all of it away, the truck was certainly more stable. I've noticed better visibility with reduced spray as well. Then... there is a possibility of 2% better fuel economy too... too small to measure, but I'll take that too.

I put them on two years ago and have not regretted it. Saw an increase, but not more than .1 or .2 mpg. The MPG drop due to headwinds is not as bad as before. As everyone said, it does help with the crosswinds some. Rain spray and road spray are drastically reduced, which I think is one of the best benefits.

Today I had really bad experience with winds hitting the trailer sideways and almost tipping me over.

Twice my trailer tires on the side facing the wing were lifting off the ground while I was trying to find a safe place to park.

This experience got me thinking if there is any way to help at least reduce the effects of those strong side winds. I also have side skirts which makes my trailer even bigger "sail" when the wind is coming form the side.

Any ideas what might help in this situation?
