Aight so past week or so I’ve noticed my air pressure creeping higher than normal. Now it’s building and holding at 160. If I stab the brakes it’ll drop like normal then build back.

Could this be a faulty governor? Does anyone know where it may be and if it’s adjustable. However I doubt it magically jumped out of adjustment..likely it’s taking a ####.
    It’s a DD16 in a Freightliner 122sd

The air governor is adjustable. Where to find it on your particular truck? Who knows. I’ve seen them mounted on the air compressor, next to the air compressor, next to the dryer which that in itself, can be any number of places, next to air tanks, etc., etc., etc.

Probably mounted on the air dryer then. Is it popping off but continuing to build, or popping at 160?

Yeah after further research I do believe it’s mounted on the dryer.
    It’s not popping off…just over building…and fluctuating.
The small gray line had a leak in it a month ago…and once I fixed it I started noticing the fluctuations. It was probably a weak point that broke before I realized it was over building pressure

If not popping off at all, my first thought would be governor. Popping off and still building I would suspect unloader signal or unloader.

Not hard to diagnose if you want to walk through it.

You probably only have a single air line to it if mounted on the dryer. If so, that should be unloader signal. You can pull it off and see if air comes out at normal cut out psi.

    If not, replace the governor.

To clarify, the air should come out of the governor at normal pop off pressure, not the air line.

So once pressure builds to say 145 air should only come out of governor not airline?

If pressure does come out of line what would that indicate?

There is only 1 small air line, correct? A pic would help. If air comes out of the air line, the governor is probably not on the dryer

Had trouble with my compressor building over 150 psi few months ago. Adjusting the governor did not help.

When I finally located the problem, it was the signal line from dryer to the governor, inside had broken down and was clogged up….
