I just bought a 2006 KW T600 with a CAT C15 acert. I see lots of threads talking about adjusting the "cut-out" pressure on the governer but I cant find any info on changing "cut-in" pressure. I'll be cruising at 65mph and my air will go all the way down to 80ish psi before the compressor/ governer decides to turn on and build pressure back up to 125psi. Is there an adjustment screw/spring that I can adjust just like the one I've seen described in other posts for the cut out pressure? Thanks in advance!

I'm gonna watch this thread...I have the opposite problem you have. Mine pops off at 130 and the compressor kicks back on at 125
77fib77 Thanks this. -
I had my truck sitting for a week and it leaked all my air out (I wasnt expecting much different) so I aired it up and it purged at 135psi then settled at 130psi. I then shut my truck down and started crawling all over it spraying up and down all the air lines, fittings, bags, tanks, air dryer, etc and found no leaks!! It was about 15min later and I then keyed on the truck and confirmed that it didnt drop any pressure. It was still at 130psi in both tanks.
I'm really at a loss. There has to be some sort of spring/valve that opens when the pressure has dropped down enough and it opens to let the air build. The seller stated he put a new air governor on it and I agree it looks brand new. So maybe an adjustment? I did find a slight amount of oil in the air tanks when I purged them. Maybe my compressor is on it's way out and the reed valve is worn. Who knows. It does take an eternity to air up from 0psi but once I'm driving the compressor builds pressure just fine (probably because it's getting boost and it's a single piston bendix) -
Only cut-out pressure is adjustable. Cut-in pressure is built in by design to be approximately 20 to 25 PSI lower than the cut-out pressure. If its not cutting in properly, start by changing out the governor. They're cheap and usually pretty simple to replace.

Thank you for your reply. So if I am understanding you correctly, the governor is responsible for both cut-in and cut-out? I'll go ahead and get a new one I guess if you think that will solve the issue. It looks brand new and is suppose to be only a few months old.. I'll give it a shot.

@Figifister just youtube it. This is a D2, yours may be different. I'm certain a napa can order it for around 15 to $25.. Freightliner wanted $75 when I changed mine. I went to truck pros paid $15.
Just get the old one and copy the connections. There are blanks(plugs) for the ports. One of the line triggers the compressor turning on off. Another is a feed line from the air dryer. There should be around a 30 psi window for engagement to cutting off. Like on at 100 off at 130. This is the cheapest place to start on the air pressure system. It will normally be near the air dryer or near the compressor.Last edited: Mar 27, 2021
Vampire and Figifister Thank this. -
I appreciate the help. Mine is slightly different than the one you posted but maybe that's the point. I need a different model that has a closer pressure differential.77fib77 Thanks this. -
I just watched some videos on it. Its mind numbingly simple. Thanks for your help guys.

I just found the problem! My exhaust port was clogged! Look at this guys. This goes along with the story that the seller had replaced this not too long ago. But what he didnt know is that the mechanic (who he swore up and down was the best CAT mechanic in the entire world)...forgot to take the plug out!! Hahahaha. Simple mistake but it explains my problems.
Check out the black cap on the exhaust port!
