Can anyone tell me how to tell if air compressor is bad? Sometimes the truck won't build air over 60 psi, when I drain the air tank oil comes out

That's a pretty sure sign that it's done it's duty. Just make sure that the air intake is open to the compressor and the discharge isn't restricted with carbon before replacing the compressor.

have u ever changed the filter on the dryer? we need more info about the sometimes. is after sitting? when hooked to trailer? while sitting idle?
-
I started the truck up today, built air right from start to 125 psi. I suspect the governor is going bad, I don't have an air dryer. I took the hose off the exhaust side of compressor and ran it, doesn't blow any oil. there is a rattle in the first tank when the compressor is running, don't know what that means.

If it has a check valve installed in the wet tank inlet the oil may have attacked and deteriorated the rubber check valve seat. If the rubber has come off the seat in the valve it will rattle and the rubber can cause blockage to the secondary tank.

Thanks for yor help, sounds like you know your stuff. Can you tell me about a Williamson exhaust brake? My truck has one, but when I brought it home the air line was disconected so I hooked it up and tried it. The brake kinda hesitated for a second and then it worked. The next time I used it it just kicked in and out, after that it won't do anything

No biggie, I learned a few things, sorry but I'm not familiar with your exhaust brake operation. I'm sure someone around here is and can help you.

Went out today to find the check valve on the air tank, and there wasn't one. The line comes off the air compressor and straight to the wet tank. Could there just be something in the air tank or is it just noise from the compressor?
-
Noise could be caused by rust in the tank or a loose baffle. You could try pulling the plugs and flushing or replace the tank.

HI,
My coolant is overflowing from the coolant tank, looks like hot air is blowing to the tank, when the coolant temperature is between 180 and 190, still have spitting coolant.
I have changed my coolant tank and the thermostat but still having the same issue. What would be the issue come from? is it from the bad air compressor or cylinder head?Rideandrepair Thanks this.
