'05 IH 9900i. Air cleaner restriction gauge is all the way to the right with motor running. Can't honestly say I've looked at it not running. Prior owner just changed filters yearly.

I'm guessing it's an electric gauge, so start with wiring diagrams and test the gauge.

Any insight on how the system works? Is there a type of manifold pressure sensor on the air intake tubes?

i just change my filters every pm if i have been in dusty conditions at all every other if iv been running highway.

iv seen filteres totally plugged up and the filter gauges hardly read anything at all, there useless imo just change the filter.

They are usually mechanical gauges. There is a button to reset it. I never seen an electric unless its just a light.

i normally run oem from the dealer, typically with other parts orders i stock my pm filters normally try to stay at least 1 pm ahead with filters on hand, its convenient i don't have to question quality or fitment probably costs a couple bucks more but really iv found the prices to be competitive enough second choice is typically wix, i would stay with a paper element don't buy a k&n or similar cotton filter to try to protect a big truck engine. they don't filter well enough imo

if you have the restriction gauge, change the filter when the gauge indicates it. you actually can change the air filter too often. most canisters have a sticker that says "do not over service". the filter actually gets more efficient as it catches dirt.

I found the owners manual the other day I'm hoping it's got a service interval for maintenance in it.
