Is trucking a job someone can get into for the first time at the age of about 60? Is there ageism in the industry? In other words, would companies not hire someone because they are too old and don't have enough experience?
Age of drivers, is 60 too old to start?

If you can pass a DOT physical... someone will hire you. Actually, almost any company will hire you now days. Sure, some may not but you'll almost certainly have to start with a mega & they'll hire most anyone.. If your blood is still warm, you can get hired.

Your age, while the industry claims a driver shortage, will put you behind the eight ball, and the companies will refuse to admit it. Yes, the lack of experience at any age, will hurt, as these companies refuse to put money into driver training. They want the benefits of a trained driver they just don't want to pay for it. And you will hear a lot about the driver shortage, it is a industry manufactured illusion to mask the failure of management.

It takes a special breed to be a driver. You have to be aware of your surroundings and have common sense. Today’s generation of drivers are the WORSE. The MEGAS and SCHOOLS use the students that just barely graduated with absolutely NO behind the wheel experience as TRAINERS. I’ve seen this first hand cause I’ve ran into 2 of them. And the ones that have had behind the wheel experience is very minimal. I’ve been trucking since 1979/80 and what is out there today just blows my mind.
