Has anyone ever used after market gauges like auto meter. My gauge cluster is going out and it would be really easy to install aftermarket gauges. The only one I am unsure of the the sending voltage/pulse wire for the speedometer.

aftermarket are ok, the speedo will likely be somewhere around 5volts, i myself would stick with original speedo.

On a Internatioanl 8100 all the gauges are in one cluster. This will be the second time we will have spent 600.00 on a new one. From what I can tell the speedo will be the hardest. Some work off a pulse sensor on the tail shaft of the transmission. I have to be careful not to interrupt the signal to the ecm or it will shut the truck down. I don't want to spend 300 on the safety pass pro.

oh, I understand. dam thats a pain in the butt. sorry i cant help. good luck though. the problem will be that the after market one will require the same input value from the sensor and deliver the same out put values as the original speedo to the ECM, maybe a good auto sparky can use resistors to adjust the values.

Update: the tachometer will work it tied in to the crank position sensor behind the harmonic balance/main pulley drive. (on a Cat)

The volts and be tied into any key switched electrical fuse location.

The water will be taped into one of the bungs near the engine return to the engine.

The oil pressure same as the water or a "T" can be used at the existing oil sending unit.

The fuel gauge is 13ohms empty and around 17 full. I still need to verify that. The gauge never worked very well. I think it may be the sending unit.

The speedometer is a pulse signal and auto meter sells a nice unit for this that is programmable. It will also have to be tied into the existing sending unit. If the ECU does not get signal it will shut the truck down. All the gauges are electrical. No oil lines in the truck. The only hose will be for the boost gauge. I will pull the warning lights off the harness. The hardest part will be making the gauge panel to fit into place and look nice.

All that gauges will be auto meter. The price will be around 550.00 I would do the labor myself. A new cluster unit from International is 690.00 and doesn't look nearly as good.
