I've often wondered why trucking companies don't make the sides of their trailers available for advertisers. Seems to me it wouldn't be hard to design a system of interchangeable signs that could be attached to sides of trucks.

Does anyone know why this isn't being done?

I think thats a good idea, mybee it would offset some off the gas costs, then the drivers could put more in there pockets instead of there gas tanks!!:biggrin_255:

They do have a system that is kind of like a banner but the size of a billboard, and it rolls onto the truck
I had thought the company was out of business, and posted that comment
To my surprise and I think it was the west coast they are still doing it
I have not seen them for a couple of years but according to the poster they are still used quite often

The company name on the side of the tanks indentify the company. In my line of work it's bad enough that we have to hire common carriers and the public sees someone other than the company dropping gas in our stations. They think we are selling cheap gasoline because they don't know the system. We take pride in our driving and we want the public to know that the courtesy the driver exhibits is from our company. Sure it works the other way but very seldom.

I believe that companies want their own advertisement on the side because it pays better than leasing the space to others. Some years ago our trucks would not even be on the freeway during rush hour because the company didn't want people thinking that we were blocking traffic. Then the customer would go to brand X. Just look at swift. They are everywhere so people think they're a great company. Advertising is propaganda and self serving.
