Wasn't sure if I should post this here, flatbed forum or in ask an owner operator soooo I'll try here first! Made it through the first step of getting my application with AMMF approved. This would be my first company leased to as an O/O. I've read through posts in the past and heard good things, just want to know if there's any current drivers there with any info I should know other then what I've heard from recruiting, and if I'm making a good choice (other than I know I'm starting at the worst time economy wise)? I was looking into Ace Doran/Bennett as well. Thanks!

Did you look at their load board before signing on?

Not actually signed on yet... but no I have not. I've read that the recruiter would typically let drivers check the board out prior but it was never mentioned to me and I forgot to ask. I keep hearing about the load board, I thought they have 200+ agents as well? Unless it doesn't mean anything without some sort of seniority.

Admiral is a good company, but it also depends on what you want.Don’t know what area you’re in.But flats do good in the Midwest. The biggest thing is building a good reputation with the agents it takes time so try to find the agents with the best loads and try to stay in there area. Not all agents are good at what they do.you really want to stay off boards so when you’re heading into a agents area call them on your way see what they have on the day you are empty in out.

I highly recommend you look at that board for a few weeks before you make the jump. If you can make something regularly happen off the board I think you'll do good but if you can't you'll go broke "building relationships."

I respectfully disagree with lamovent the studying the load board you really get very little information from that. You’re just seeing what is really available for brokering you would get much better information from calling the agent in your home area and discussing a plan from that. the good loads usually will never make it to a load board.Load boards are only good when the economy is good anyone can get good loads then. For the best success is to book loads b4 a agent has to post it.So staying in touch with agents is always the best option when working with agent based carriers

    Getting your security clearance so
You can haul secured loads will pay more .
Bennet had their ability to haul secured loads revoked by the fedgov so they bought ace Doran to be able to haul secured loads under ace Doran’s secure load for authority .

I was leased on there for 2 years before getting my own authority. The load board isn't the true picture of the freight at Admiral. I always had agents calling me when they see I was gonna be in a certain area. Never had any issues with Admiral. And on the plus side, if you cant find anything, you can look on truck stop and book your own loads also.

So how'd it end up going? I've been looking into them as well, so any insight you've gotten since would be helpful!

Signed on in August. Kind of slow with having to introduce myself to agents etc. and figuring out freight while trying to not be to picky to get out of my home state. Company itself is great so far. Everyone is super nice and helpful. Getting to know agents is a must, and like nikmirbre said you can self secure loads from basically anywhere you want.
