So I called on a load Friday that would take me back home. Kansas city-Baytown,tx load of Crane parts 845 miles paid $1,600 all in sounded good out of ks so after taking the load going to pick it up and sucuring it the shipper said they needed that copy of my insurance, I said broker has it
15 min later broker calls back and said sorry they forgot to inform me I needed $250,000 in cargo insurance so at the time I really didn't think it was going to be a big deal, Boy was I wrong!!!
I was told by my insurance co just to insure that one load would cost me $1,500 I don't pay that for a full year of cargo insurance now. What do any of you do on loads like this?
I ended up unloading the load and wasted half a day seems like more and more loads I call on need more insurance
Adding more cargo insurance? Over $100,000

We bumped ours up to 250k when we renewed this year. We did have it at 150k for Menlo. Although 100k has been the norm for years, it doesn't cover as much these days. Put two of the higher end skidsteers on your truck and you're already over 100k. If you're gonna insure just one load it's always going to cost more than just doing it by the year. If you only miss out on one load a year by not having the higher insurance I wouldn't sweat it.

Yup. We are at 250k cargo. Thanks to quantive easing Q1 Q2 and 3.
your money is worth a lot less. Just like some "good" brokers are going 100k bond. Cost of doing business.
Pops runs very high value machinery and has 500k cargo. Hes been in business a long time and his customers like his work. -
I was going to do some Direct for a company and they wanted me to cary 200,000...it wasnt enough work to justify the cost

$1500?!? I think your agent added a Zero. We needed to bump to that level on a load last week and it was only $145. Highest we paid was $212 for the extra $150K. At that level it must have been high theft risk.

If you use truckstop.com you can purchase single trip cargo up to 500,000 with Cargomate. It's not cheap, I think it was about $200 both times I used it one was 150,000 and one was 200,000. But it's real easy you just enter origin, destination, and coverage amount and you get a quote. So it's handy to get a quote and you can document the cost to send to the broker.
Oh, and if you go to the homepage truckstop.com, you click the insurance tab at the top to find CargomateBAYOU Thanks this. -
