    Straightforward:

Busted coolant line, fixed coolant line, radiator burped 300 miles down the road.

Can I add the coolant to the hot radiator? It's one of those sealed radiators, the ones where if you're ever low, its leaking.

Am I asking for a hot burning spray if I pop the cap to add more fluid?

i unscrew the cap slowly, let the pressure release slowly. unscrew a little more for more slow release.

eventually you'll have all the pressure released and be good to go. takes about 5 minutes.

course, if it's too low, as in fresh cold antifreeze possibly hitting the engine. let her cool down a little first.

If you don't have the time to let it cool. When you remove cap it will spit or spray. If you have to open. I would put a rag over cap and then a plastic bag. Put leather gloves on and turn cap to the first notch.
Put downward pressure against the cap as you turn it.
You will feel the coolant pushing against your hand. Slowly let the lid push your hand away. The reason I only turn lid to first notch, if I release to fast of my hand slips the lid can't come off completely. IF you release the pressure this way its safer.

After the pressure is released turn the lid rest of the way open and add coolant. While the motor is running.

Watch out for the coolant to spray back out of the opening.
Best way to do this is wait for the coolant to cool off.
    Good luck.

Or if you have access to a hose you can run water over the radiator and cool it down pronto.
