I drive a Western Star 5700XE. I have the ABS Trailer alert ( symbol ) on constantly on my panel in front of my steering wheel. The yellow ABS light on the trailer is not on. I think there is a problem with the ABS electrical system on the truck ( not the trailer ). I have a Fault Code J1708 with no information on the date/time, MID, FMI, and PID/SID. However, there is another Fault Code J1939 with SA : “42 Headway Controller”, FMI : “19 Received Network Data in Error”, and SPN : 5606.
Do the Fault Codes J1708 and J1939 have anything to do with the ABS System?
Thank you,
Ken Beard

Tractor ABS communicate with trailer ABS on PLC power line communication. In other words thru central power wire. Bad connection in pigtail or bad ground can cause all type of weird codes.CDLman63 Thanks this. -
Is your ABS powered by the regular electrical line from your tractor? Or is there a separate line specifically for ABS

Trailer ABS runs completely independent of the truck. All truck does is supply 12 volt constant power down the 7 pin plug's center pin. In the event that it doesn't get its 12 volts I believe the trailer ABS module will boot up and operate when it gets power from the brake light circuit.

Can you hook up to a different trailer or have someone hook to yours to help isolate the problem?

A dirty or faulty ABS trailer sensor can trigger a tractor dash alert light.
