Wife's going through the CDL school she's half way through and doing great. I heard US Xpress liked to force you to team train (i think it's 8 weeks) after getting done with the actual trainer driving hours, she asked, they said no, of course you already know they lied and are now saying she will have to do it before going solo. She's worried they'll pair her with a newbie random guy for the team driving (what woman wouldn't be), she requested it to be a female but could they make her go with a male if no female is available?

Also, I heard you only get paid the $70 a day "training" pay this entire time and not getting paid per mile, anyone know if that's true? (Recruiter said only the first 30 days you get training pay but already know you can't trust that).

Will this team driving be counted as OTR experience for other jobs? ...and lastly, can i expect her to have any home time while shes with her trainer or when she's doing the 8 week team driving training? We have young kids (3 and 5) and we knew she'd be gone a lot but all that training is going to be 4 months or more, any information would be greatly appreciated!

I feel for you & your wife. You have to really do your homework on these companies. They look out for there best interest and bottom line is money. I had 3 trainers when I got my start. 1st one I told them smoke makes me sick who do they team me with a smoker :eek:. 2nd one straight dirty & he was scared to drive in nyc rush hour i'm the trainee I drove. He didn't want to drive at night as a team we drove only mainly 10 hours a day:confused::confused:. I was so tempted to leave him in Arizona. 3rd one finally a clean non smoker & could teach. I hope the best for your wife & you. I hope she gets through this training period. As you can see I went through it & I did leave & came back to same company. I don't recommend it, it does always work out like it did for me. Definitely I hope she gets the right trainer she is going to be sharing a truck for 8 weeks. Let her know if the situation is not right don't tolerate it. All the best to you and her. Keep Trucking

No the training period is not counted towards otr experience only when she is qualified( finished training) will actually experience begin. She should be able to come home during that time. I would get that understand with the driver manager. She should come home before she get on with truck to start training & during the time she is training. I would get this point clarified. Watch out for the bullying tactics. I'm not trying to paint a bad picture I hope it goes well for her. Be patient and wise it is a transition for her and your family starting out in trucking. I just know it be a stressful time & financially crippling. If she makes it through the tough times it can be very rewarding. All the best

Pretty sure she is, it's the company sponsored program but she's using her GI Bill so she's not exactly sure if thats paying the whole cost of the training or if US Xpress is paying it and she has to pay it back, would that make a difference? I think she still signed papers...

She's a bit too trusting sometimes and I think they are getting her excited with promises they wont keep.

Where is your location? May be some good local outfits after she leaves USX.

I'm from Robertson County Tell her to hang in there and get it done, then there's better companies to move on to. You must be near Clarksville or Union City.
There's a good job in Hopkinsville at Bulkmatic; requires 12 mos. driving experience for long runs and less than 12 mos. experience for local runs.

I'm a little confused when they say "military experience considered", is there a time limit on that usually? She was an 88M truck driver in the army for 4 years, but that was about 6-7 years ago now.

Many companies consider 88M as driving experience and factor that into the hiring process. The Army has some program for that, "Troops to Truckers" or something like that.
