Gracious. 12 days since the last post in the thread. Over 2 weeks since my last post in the thread. Abilene thread on life support these days. Just ain't had much to say.

That has changed today, mind you. Delivered a load of car parts to an O'Reilly's DC in Greensboro, NC.

After they finished unloading me, I had an empty trailer. My instructions were to go to the Wayfair warehouse next door, drop the empty trailer that was already attached to my truck, and hook up to a completely different empty trailer. I was then to take this completely different empty trailer 2 hours away and drop it in a lot in Wilson, NC. After that, I am to bobtail almost all the way back to where I started this journey, and hook a pre-loaded trailer in Burlington, NC, which is to be delivered in Ashland, VA tomorrow.

Couldn't figure out why they wanted me to swap one empty for another. The one I picked up in Greensboro and left in Wilson is a few years older than the one I left in Greensboro, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Been stuck running a lot of Pa and Nj lately but can’t complain cuz I get what I need/want miles wise. Taking a week off end of the month to look at houses and pick one I like most and let my team at veteran’s united handle everything thereafter and buy a pickup truck hopefully too. Got two broken teeth that hopefully the dental folks at my appt will fix that day. Hate taking ibuprofin every day, reminds of the Marines too much, take motrin and drink water and change socks, you’ll be fine…

So I hear the West Memphis yard has officially been sold, it was bought by a company that will turn it into a paid truck parking location. True story

It's been in the works for a while. Place has been a ghost town every time I've been by in the past several months. Basically the terminal manager and one other office employee, plus a couple of mechanics, and an awful lot of empty desks.

There's a nearby Knight/Swift/Whatever terminal they're going to run us out of instead.

Going run us out of the swift terminal over near the airport I presume. Delivered to Sam’s in Taylor, Pa Sat. Sat in the dock for three hours before unloaded and instead of getting ahead of the snowstorm I got stuck in it driving empty. Just took it slow and easy since the roads were covered til I got closer to Harrisburg where it turned to rain. Got to Lancaster Leaf and the gate code wasn’t working, even tried the old ones just to see. Im guessing it might have been frozen or they randomly changed it again. Rob sent me a deadhead move to the yard so I wouldn’t be stuck there all weekend. Unneeded 34 but I don’t mind since everything was going back up into snow zone territory.

I also took a 34 I didn't need over the weekend. Called in today to get a load, and discovered that my driver manager got laid off Friday afternoon at 5:00, just before he left for the day. Hell of a way to start the weekend.

Dude was a good guy and was my DM for about 20 months. Hope he lands on his feet.

That whole business of knowing you're gonna lay someone off and not telling 'em never sat well with me. Back in the days when I was doing the hiring and firing for my department, any time I had to lay someone off, I told 'em as soon as I found out (usually a week in advance) and then I took the whole department out that night for a "morale building" exercise and we all got lit up on the company's dime.
