Are there any other recovering drunks who drive OTR? If so, how do you find time/parking/motivation to attend meetings while you're on the road?

    Sincerely,
    James

    Good Question.

If you know you are going to be in a certain town, you can call the local AA hotline/helpline.

Tell them you are looking for a meeting. Some places are better than others about being of service, so don't get disappointed if no one will come and pick you up. At that point I'll usually pick up the phone and call one of my sober friends.

Remember: Anytime 2 or more are gathered, it's a meeting.

I've been doin the 24 hour plan for over 6 years, and having had a good foundation in the steps and a good sponsor are what have allowed me to keep my actions right while I'm out here on the road.

I'm not in AA, but my dad and step mom have been for 35+ years. They do a lot of committee stuff state and national. Do you think it would help if the people at the hotline had a schedule that was marked with meetings that were close to a truck stop? Just thinking out loud.

the worst thing i have found is hotlines that are just answering services Hotlines manned by AA members is the key they always have a list of names to call. Some old retired drunk will always come get me wanna get up and look in the truck take me to a meeting and out to a real diner

For me personally, it's simply a matter of getting the address first.

The above link will get you started.

I like toys, so I'll use one of the laptops to Google earth the address, go to Satellite view and look for parking close to the meeting. Then GPS it to see how far. Heck, I can actually do most of that on my phone.

I own my truck, though. That gives me leeway on where I can go. Probably not so if your a company driver.

I used to feel less than a trucker, when owner op moved me to straight trucks. But it has proven great for my sobriety. I have been able to get to more meetings. I can fit in more spaces, drive down more roads. I go online to website, punch in city and wah la. Like gentleman mentioned there are frw places like GA and Tenn where I have been picked up, but for most part, I find my way. While im there I get plenty of numbers. So when I make it back to these areas I know I have a connection. Also it helps me out on the road when I need someone to listen
