If the driver had paid for his spot there wouldn’t have been any problems.
Had he paid the boot fee the driver wouldn’t be in this escalated situation..
High value? Don’t put a moron in charge of the load if it’s that important.
Just another driver that thinks they can get away with not paying for a spot where it’s actually enforced. -
Seems like every story I've heard says the drivers were offered a boot removal fee but were always told it was too late, and then the price skyrockets.
Just keep on truckin' past Memphis. If you have a pickup or delivery go in, get out.
I'm going to laugh real hard when they meet the wrong guy.Vampire, Sons Hero, Bud A. and 1 other person Thank this. -
And they are extorting 5 figure fees…….Vampire, drvrtech77, Bud A. and 3 others Thank this. -
Now the driver just sounds like an entitled sniveler.
“Adams explained that the driver agreed he had not paid the parking fee right away, so A-1’s booted the truck.”
Now the drivers stupidity is going to cost them $2,800 for the towing. Sorry but I don’t feel bad one bit for that driver.
Fwiw, I’m only commenting on this particular incident. The tow and impound fees may be a little high but I’ve paid $1,500 about 5 years ago to be towed into Memphis from out on I-55. -
Big difference.
This towing company has a history of running this racket-the driver(s) go in to pay the parking fee and when they come out the towing company is already putting boots on the trucks, saying the drivers didn’t pay “fast enough”-blatantly disregarding state laws on the matter!!buzzarddriver, drvrtech77, Bud A. and 1 other person Thank this. -

More details on how the par
My general opinion on booting/towing is: If the company information is available, then the lot owner should be able to photograph the truck (or whatever is needed to prove that the truck was present on the lot) and bill the company for it (presumably with a modest surcharge for the driver not adhering to procedure). If the driver is available, this can be expedited. Also, if the driver is present [and refuses to pay], then driver should be quite capable of getting his own truck off the lot (towing should only be considered necessary if the driver is not present or if the driver had to be detained by police).
Also, unless either it is a controlled access lot (gate + guard) or the business it is attached to is closed to the public, then I also think it should be required that lot management verify the driver is aware of the policy prior to taking any actions against the driver or company (other than billing for parking or ordering the driver off the property).Last edited: Nov 21, 2023
Reason for edit: clarification -
Over the last 12 months, the City of Memphis Permits Office has received almost two dozen complaints from truckers accusing A-1’s of illegally booting and towing their trucks, but the towing company has filed a lawsuit against the city, Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn Davis, and multiple MPD officers for discrimination against a company owned by minorities.
here’s the problem… A bunch of crooks, screaming racial discrimination… I would tell them to shove that problem right up there behind and yank their license. They’re just hiding behind this BS so they can continue their criminal enterprise -
Didn't pay for the spot right Away?
Someone has to take a whiz, waiting in line at the counter, or walking to the building before Paying! Would any of these create an honestly realistic time frame to justify putting a boot on anything?
If Immediately after installing a boot telling the driver its too late, we are towing it sounds reasonable those who think this is a good practice, I can only hope they boot your truck while your at the fuel Island and claim iits been parked too long!
For the rest, may we one day soon see the guy installing the boot, the tow truck driver and the company owner hanging from the boom of some of those tow trucks as the sun slowly rises!TheLoadOut, Iamoverit, drvrtech77 and 1 other person Thank this.
