I am liking the thought of them even more. Lot less paperwork. I do appreciate the intention of HOS regs, I just wish it could be a little flexible without violations.
Like 15 minutes over 8/11/14 is only a warning with no points. Or 9.5 hours OFF-DUTY could be used twice a week or so. -
What's an elb. ?

They log to the minute, and furthermore, if it takes you 8 minutes to slowly roll through the trucks stop maze, deal with a slow exodus of trucks, lights, etc, and to get further then a mile from where you went off-duty or above 32 MPH, the drive clock will not start until that time, not the time you actually released the brakes and pulled out of your parking spot. And there are a few other ways to conserve minutes on e-logs, just as there are many ways to conserve time on paper logs.
-
Not everything is logged to the minute.
If I am on one status for less that 5 minutes it will either revert back to the last status or convert it to the new status.
Examples:
I am off duty and go on-duty for four minutes, then go off duty again. All time logged will be off duty.
If I log on-duty (from off-duty) then start to drive before 5 full minutes has elapsed, all the time will be logged as driving. -
The eld logs work depending on how it is setup. If you are an owner op. Then you can decide how you want it based on what your freight requirements are. Elds as far as company drivers goes. It is setup according to safety and company needs. The driver is the farthest thing from there mind. When it comes to elds. The big down side to elds, is dispatchers can see the eld too. And many fights are happening over hos. I know some companies had to lock operations or dispatchers out of the eld systems over the fights that happen. So that is something to consider. Do you? Or are you ready for some one that sits in a cubical all day. Telling you how to log. Or force you to work every last second of the elog clock? That's where fights are starting.
scottied67 Thanks this. -
Do all ELD's have live feed back to the MC. I could see my company not wanting any more than a weekly file transfer. They won't go electronic until they have to.

they're generally designed to send infor back to company. or a server that the company can see at any given time.
the one time i used it. the company had a company setup specifically for that purpose. all they had to do was type in the truck number and they got a graph of each day. but other settings they could play with.
that was the rand mcnally setup.
