yes, according ECE and DOT regulations ABS/EBS fault lamp test is required. and TABS/TEBS WL too.

Lamp must be on when ignition is on and off in 2 seconds ore at 5 mph speed.

If ABS ore EBS WL is bad MID 136 SID 23 fault code is active

 

Yep, like Pablo said it should come on at key on. If no ABS light comes on that is a direct indication of a faulty system and technically fails an inspection. Most ABS warning lights are ignition powered and only turned off by the ABS module, so if the ABS is unplugged or the ECU fails the light will always be on. So no ABS light doesn't mean the ABS is just unplugged. The light could be out because it is simply burnt out, bulb has fallen out of the socket in behind the dash or someone has deliberately removed the bulb or disabled the circuit.

 

yes there are rite about the lite staying on for a few seconds. however a small piece of black tape will fix it until u get back to the yard if it stays on. however the dot would take a dim view of it. to me its just a way for them to generate more money for there coffers. xxxx like a defective lite is one of many things that you guys put up with now. oh yeah then the dot says its not about money, its about safety jon

 

Start by replacing the bulb then it should come on with the key

 

If your not sure which bulb to replace , remove each one individually and shine a light behind until the abs logo shows, sometimes there hard to see with the black warning displays.

 

Factory Wabco and Knorr setup - bulb is direcly wired to ABS unit (no ABS unit - no light), but Daimler for example used relay on SK Trucks and on Freightliners. When you pull out ABS unit - light is on.

First of all I need a snapshot of ABS electronic modul ID plate to know its brand and part #.

in 1998 Paccar used Knorr ABS with Bosch ECM (named Bendix in USA) ore ABS-C by Wabco.

Bosch unit is Black with LEDs, Wabco is silver box with one connector. They got no J1939, only K-L datalink for European diagnostic units and J1587/1708 for US diagniostic units. Of course datalink form all the units (engine, ABS, ECAS and other) runs to 6 pin diagnostic connector

 

Yes, bottom row all the way to the right,And yes if DOT finds it not working you will get wrote up, and even a warning creates CSA points.If you give me a couple of days to go thru last years paperwork I can show you what that looks like too.lol. On mine('05) the next light to the left is trailer ABS, but it will not light up unless I am hooked to a trailer equiped with ABS.
